New Appiatse Community To Be Completed Within 6-12 months- Samuel Jinapor

Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has disclosed that the new community for Appiatse will soon commence and will be completed within 6-12 months.

The Minister touching on government’s promise to rebuild for the people of Appiatse, announced that government has a robust plan to rebuild the community in three phases.

Samuel Jinapor explained that the first stage which has already been provided are tents and related materials for the victims to occupy in the interim. Stage two, he noted, will see the provision of temporary structures and the third are actual construction blocks works and livelihood support for the people.

According to the Lands Minister, on Friday, February 18, 2022, he will lead a team to Appiatse, to among others, identify areas where the second phase being the temporary structures will be placed, especially before the rains set in.

Samuel Jinapor emphasized that government will undertake the rebuilding of the community in a methodological manner inline with the best practices. He posited that this systematic or gradual process of going about things comes as a result of the public accountability regime of the country.

” You will agree with me that any issue with respect to money spent, must be done in a manner which is in accordance with laid down procedures of how public funds are spent.”

Government to raise sufficient funds

The Lands Minister further expressed government’s optimism to raise sufficient funds to build the model community which he described as, a much Greener and sustainable concept.

Samuel Jinapor indicated that so far government, through the Ministry and NADMO, has provided some basic relief to the people including providing of food, water and health care. He averred that what government is interested in is how to bring all stakeholders involved to work together to protect the welfare of the victims.

Meanwhile, Samuel Jinapor has donated an amount of 20,000 Ghana cedis to the Appiatse Support Fund to compliment government’s efforts to rebuild the community and also provide relief for affected persons.

The Minister commended those who have contributed to the fund so far, particularly the President of Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for leading the charge.

Mr. Jinapor encouraged Ghanaians, residents and friends in Ghana to also contribute, just as the slogan of the fund demands” Obiatua bi” and commended highly the members of the Appiatse Support fund Committee for their service to the nation.

The Chinese Embassy in Ghana has also presented a cheque of GHC50,000 Ghana cedis to support the aim of the fund. Their donations makes them the first Embassy in Ghana to contribute towards the fund.
