The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for its attack on former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
In a statement signed by Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP’s National Organizer, the party expressed concern over remarks made during a television interview by the NDC.
Specifically, the NPP highlighted comments by Dela Edem, a member of the NDC’s National Communications Team and a campaign aide to former President John Mahama.
According to the NPP, during the interview, Dela Edem directed insults and invectives at H.E. John Agyekum Kufuor, which the NPP described as unacceptable.
“The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has noted with utmost revulsion the unwarranted personal attacks at the person of President Kufour by some functionaries of the NDC for expressing his view on matters of national interest.
“Dela Edem, who was speaking on TV XYZ, said, among other horrible things, that ‘President Kuffuor is evil, and that’s why he is in a wheelchair and has been cursed to remain in a wheelchair’”.

The NPP further described these unprovoked attacks on the revered statesman and former president as despicable, shameful, and utterly disgraceful.
According to the party, such conduct, the party emphasized, is unbecoming and unworthy of any political discourse.
Consequently, the NPP unequivocally condemns these actions, reaffirming its commitment to defending the dignity and legacy of President John Agyekum Kufuor.
The NPP also criticized the deafening silence of the NDC’s flag bearer, John Mahama, and the party’s leadership in the wake of Mr. Dela Edem’s disgraceful behavior toward the respected former president.
According to the NPP, their failure to address or condemn such reprehensible conduct raises serious questions about their stance on decency in political discourse.
The party stressed that this silence cannot be ignored, as it signals tacit approval of the unwarranted attacks on former President John Agyekum Kufuor. “Former President Mahama must show leadership and institute the necessary disciplinary actions against his darling boy”.
NPP Warns Mahama’s Silence “Endorses” Attack
Furthermore, the NPP cautioned that if Mr. Mahama and the NDC persist in their silence on this matter, even days after such appalling remarks were made, it would imply their endorsement of these shameful utterances.
The party argued that such a stance could embolden similar conduct and create a precedent for toxic political discourse.
This, the NPP warned, risks polluting the political atmosphere ahead of the crucial December elections, which should otherwise be characterized by decorum and mutual respect among political actors.
“We would take the opportunity to remind Dela Edem and the NDC of the enviable spot earned by former President Kufuor in the hearts of Ghanaians by dint of the many monumental development programs rolled out in his tenure. Ghanaians will forever be grateful to the former President for NHIS, School Feeding, Capitation Grant, Free Maternal Care, Metro Mass Transport, and the many other developmental programs…”
New Patriotic Party (NPP)
The NPP highlighted that many of the initiatives introduced by former President Kufuor continue to positively impact the lives of Ghanaians to this day.
These policies and programs, the party noted, have stood the test of time and remain a testament to his visionary leadership.
As a result of his enduring contributions, President Kufuor has earned a special place in the hearts and minds of well-meaning members of Ghanaian society.
According to the NPP, beyond Ghana, the former president has also gained recognition as a global icon, admired for his statesmanship and commitment to sustainable development.
The NPP, therefore, calls on former President John Mahama to publicly condemn the despicable statements made by his aide.
Additionally, they urge him to issue a formal apology to H.E. John Agyekum Kufuor for the unwarranted and disrespectful remarks.
Taking these steps, the NPP emphasized, would demonstrate John Mahama’s commitment to decency and civility in Ghana’s political discourse.
