Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Agribusiness, Anthony Morrison, has called for the resignation of the minister for agriculture, Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

Supporters of Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, have purchased nomination forms for his candidacy in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming flagbearer race.

The supporters highlighted the Planting for Food and Jobs policy as a game-changer in the Akufo-Addo government, and reckoned that if given the opportunity, he will accomplish even more as a leader of the NPP and as President of the country.

The campaign team of Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto expressed confidence that Dr Akoto’s commendable performance at the Ministry of Agriculture is enough reason to get him elected as flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Upon receiving the presidential nomination form at the NPP party headquarters, the team emphasized that farmers and delegates nationwide, who have backed the former Agriculture Minister’s endeavors, covered the cost of the nomination forms.

Speaking on behalf of Dr Afriyie Akoto, Dr. Prince Amuzu, the campaign spokesperson, expressed gratitude for the support received from farmers and delegates.

“We want to continue to thank Ghanaian farmers and the friends of Dr. Akoto who pulled themselves together to make it possible this morning that the forms for the contest have been picked at the party’s headquarters. Team Akoto says thank you very much and God bless you for the show of love and support.

“From here, we are taking the forms to the campaign head office, where the team will be sending the forms to him to hear his side. These farmers are across the country, and they have come out boldly to say they want to encourage Dr. Akoto. To the delegates, the farmers, the good people of Ghana, we say thank you.”

Dr Prince Amuzu

Dr. Amuzu iterated that farmers across the country indicated they wanted to make the purchase of the forms for Dr Akoto, and who on his part, did not deny them the opportunity.

“Delegates and friends as well came together to pull resources as a sign of love and support for him. The impact of Dr. Akoto who was given the opportunity to serve as an Agric Minister is felt by all and sundry.”

Dr Prince Amuzu

Receiving the nomination forms, Dr Akoto expressed his profound gratitude to the supporters who have exhibited their confidence in his vying for the flagbearership position of the party. He stated that he is ultimately convinced to ensure the party wins the 2024 elections.

“I am very proud of what you have done and I’m overwhelmed with the confidence that you’ve shown in me. I can assure you I won’t let you down. We are going to campaign around the country to sell our message for the resuscitation of the NPP as a party. The morale is down and we are going to raise the morale to face the NDC come next year 2024.”

NPP vows loss of NDC in 2024 election

Meanwhile, a Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu Bempah, has revealed that former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will lose the 2024 general elections.

He indicated that Mr Mahama had no better records when he was in office which the people of Ghana will base on to give him the mandate again.

“We will retire him in 2024. It is a shame he can have that shenanigans even to dream of contesting to want to be president for just for four years after spending 35 years enjoying every position one can ever think of.”

Ernest Owusu Bempah

Speaking to journalists in Accra, Mr Owsu Bempah cited various instances which showed the seeming neglect of the former President which occurred under his administration to emphasized his point that the NDC will not win the next general elections.

“He brought dumsor for four years, unprecedented in our country’s history, the most corrupt leader of our time i.e Airbus Scandal, Ford gift, Gyeeda, SADA, Saglemi, Ambulance, Bus Branding and his incompetence was beyond human reasoning… Poor management of the Ghanaian economy with 3.5% growth when there was no global recession ie covid /Russia Ukraine war. We remember him for the cancelation of teacher training and nurses allowances, [and] he could not provide free SHS and jobs to the Ghanaian youth.”
