Yaw Boateng, spokesperson of Francis Addai-Nimoh, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer candidate, has stated that Francis Addai-Nimoh will definitely be one of the top five contenders at the party’s Special Delegates Conference on Saturday, August 26, 2023.
On Friday, he stated that the team was confident in its ability to win, even in the November primaries, because the team had fully prepared and is equipped for the fight.
“We as a team in Francis Addai-Nimoh’s camp are resolute in whatever that we are doing, and we know that at the end of the polls, our candidate will emerge as one of the five people to be selected by the party to go into the major election to elect the ultimate person.
“And to become the flagbearer, of which we know it will be Francis Addai-Nimoh at the end of the day. So, we are very certain and prepared towards that. And everything is working in our way.”

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong, former Trade Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, former Energy Minister Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong are the top five candidates, whose names are in the open and are predicted to emerge strongly as the top 5 out of the 10 aspirants.
Afriyie Akoto Appeals To Delegates
Likewise, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a candidate for the NPP’s flagbearer position, has pleaded with the 961 Super Delegates of the party to have faith in him by resoundingly voting for him to be among the five people chosen for the November 4 runoff.
In his speech to the Delegates prior to voting on August 26, 2023, Dr. Akoto asked the party’s kingmakers to show him some love because he had contributed so much to the party’s advancement.
In addition to stating that he has the resources to resurrect the NPP tradition and secure its growth, where the pain of its workers will be eliminated, he reminded them of his goal for the party and the nation.
The former two-term MP for Kwadaso asserted that among the ten candidates vying for the party’s flagbearer position, his vision of establishing for-profit businesses to generate income to finance party activities at all levels, while creating employment opportunities for the unemployed, stands out as being viable and attainable.
“I am appealing to you, the Super Delegates, to vote for me. When you vote for me, I have envisioned two things to do; one for the party and the other for the country. All of us are aware of what happened in the 2016 General Elections. In the Presidential, our then candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo beat the then incumbent President John Mahama with over 900,000 votes.
“But when we went to the 2020 General Elections, when everyone was expecting a wider margin between these two Presidential candidates, the over 900,000 votes were cut down to a little over 500,000. We nearly lost the parliamentary majority seats. We are now pegged at 137 with the Independent Parliamentary candidate, Amoako Asiamah, declaring to do business with the NPP for us to become the Majority Group.”

He added that the events demonstrated that not everything was good, since the grassroots had been neglected. Also, he disclosed that the common folk he spoke with, frequently expressed feelings of abandonment.
Moreover, he asserted that this will make it very tough to break the eight-year cycle, which is why he decided to run for flagbearer, in an effort to make things different. “So, I am appealing to you once again to show me some love and vote massively for me. I will ensure to work hard to reform the party for all to enjoy”, he underscored.
Also, when chosen to lead the NPP and later as President of the Republic of Ghana, he said that both women and young people would be enabled to play important roles in his administration.
