Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), prior to the party’s Presidential primaries, has pleaded with the delegates to support a candidate who has the vision to change the Ghanaian economy and wean it off of the IMF bailout it is currently receiving.
Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, also advised the delegates to disregard all kinds of threats and false information that is circulated.
Mr. Kyerematen made the declaration while on a campaign tour through the Greater Accra region, where he attended cluster meetings with party officials and constituents.
The former Trade Minister argued that he was still the NPP’s only chance of ending the nation’s eight-year electoral cycle. Thus, he urged the delegates to choose a flagbearer who would likely succeed as the President of the nation.
Moreover, Alan Kyerematen exhorted the delegates to listen to the party’s over six million grassroots supporters and make their choice for the party’s candidate in the upcoming general election. Delegates, he continued, “must not only look at their personal benefits but the wider interest of members who put them there.”
Additionally, Mr. Kyerematen urged the delegates to support a candidate who has the interests of the constituents at heart. When given the opportunity to lead the party to victory in the national election, he vowed to improve the welfare of and possibilities for the constituency executives.
Mr Kyerematen claimed that he was the only NPP political figure who would be able to dilute the votes of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta region because of his appeal to the people in that part of the country.
Alan Kyerematen Highly Praised
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfrom, Mr. Sylvester Tetteh, praised Mr. Kyerematen’s accomplishments, highlighting his leadership of the Presidential Special Initiative (PSI) under previous President Kufuor and the industrialization plan of President Akufo-Addo.
Additionally, he insisted that Mr. Kyerematen was the NPP’s greatest chance to win the 2024 election and requested that he should be endorsed at the party’s National Delegates Conference in November.
According to Mr. John Peter Amewu, the Minister for Railway Development, who also spoke to the delegates while tagging along during the Greater Accra tour, he emphasized on the fact that choosing Mr. Kyerematen as the party’s flagbearer would make it much simpler for the NPP to “break the eight.”
He said that among all the candidates vying to lead the NPP, Alan Kyerematen was the least attacked by opponents because he had a clean record whilst in office.
“We are presenting to you a candidate that would make our work very easy… I am from the Volta Region, and I am saying the love for Alan in the region is huge and he is the one that can break the dominance of the NDC in the region.”
John Peter Amewu
Prior to its National Congress on November 4, 2023, where over 200,000 delegates would select the party’s flagbearer to lead the party to the 2024 general elections, the New Patirotic Party (NPP) is anticipated to hold a special conference of 900 delegates to reduce the number of its Presidential aspirants from nine to five.
