NPP Set To Respond To Alan Kyerematen’s Resignation On Tuesday, Sept. 26

Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen

The New Patriotic Party has indicated that it will respond to the resignation of Mr Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, the former presidential candidate and a long-standing member of the party to contest as an independent candidate in the 2024 General Elections.

In a statement released by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Koduah Frimpong on Monday, September 25 2023, the party stated that it shall respond to the unfortunate resignation of Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen on Tuesday, September 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

“The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken notice of the unfortunate decision of Mr Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, a long–standing member of the party to forfeit his membership and contest as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections”.

Justin Kodua Frimpong

Mr. Justin Koduah also urged the ranks and file of the New Patriotic Party to remain calm and await an official address by the party tomorrow, Tuesday, September 26 2023.

Alan Resigns From NPP To Contest As Independent Presidential Candidate

The former flagbearer aspirant for New Patriotic Party presidential primaries, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen resigned from the New Patriotic Party on Monday, September 25, 2023, and announced a four-point agenda for his bid to contest the 2024 General Elections as an independent presidential candidate.

“I have endured all this resentment, and maintained my integrity within the party throughout the past fifteen years.”

Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen

Announcing his bid for the presidency on Monday, September 25, 2023, Mr Kyerematen, the former Trades and Industry Minister said to actualize his goal as an independent presidential candidate he will establish and lead a new MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE in Ghana.

The brand logo for the MOVEMENT is the Monarch Butterfly, which politically symbolizes change and transformation, hope, and positivity. It also communicates strength, endurance, spirituality, and trust, which are key traits that he said he cherishes as a Political Leader.

In Akan, it is known as Afrafranto. The brand motto of the MOVEMENT is “Ghana Will Rise Again,” which symbolizes hope for the future of Ghana.

“The new Movement will be led and powered by the youth of Ghana. Out of the over 17 million registered voters in the 2020 general election, the youth aged 18-35, years constituted over 9.4 million voters representing 55% (Fifty-five percent) of the total voters”

Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen

It could be recalled that on Tuesday night, September 5 2023, Mr. Alan Kyerematen declared his withdrawal from the NPP’s flagbearer election, citing several factors.

He gave several reasons for his choice, including intimidation, violence against a member of his campaign staff, and the way the party allegedly planned the super delegates meeting to favour one candidate over the others.

Mr. Kyerematen claimed that statements made by several influential party members both before and after the elections support his findings.

“After having carefully analysed the results of the said elections, it is absolutely clear to me from events leading to, during and after the elections, that the Special Delegates Conference was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular Aspirant.”

In addition, Mr. Kyerematen emphasized that he was not confident the situation he had mentioned would not continue or even worsen during the election on November 4. As a result, he confirmed that he was honourably withdrawing from the process leading up to the presidential primaries that will take place on November 4, 2023.

The New Patriotic Party is expected to hold its National Delegates Conference on November 4 to elect its flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
