Member of Parliament for Damongo Constituency and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has revealed that the Salaga South Constituency seat will be reclaimed by the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 elections.
According to him, the loss of the seat to the National Democratic Congress was a result of issues that could have been avoided. He argued that history has proven that the Salaga South Constituency is a stronghold of the NPP.
Speaking at the palace of Kpansheigu in Salaga in the Savannah Region where Dr Bawumia is touring as part of his working visits, Mr Jinapor recounted that Kpembe which falls under the Salaga South Constituency is the “bedrock and birthplace” of the New Patriotic Party in the region. He stated that J.A. Braimah in private life was the person who formed the NPP and at the height of President Nkrumah’s power and political authority, NPP in Kpembe was always popular and won all the elections from 1950, 1951 and even the independence election through J.A. Braimah.
“So, this is the heart ground of the New Patriotic Party. Even when we are struggling with votes in other parts of Gonjaland, Salaga South always stands firm for the NPP. Something little just went amiss in 2020 and I have all confidence that with your support and leadership and the support of the Kpembewura and the party that by the Grace of God through the blessings of the Kpembewura and the Imam and all the people of Kpembe, Salaga South will come back home to the elephant family”.

Dr Bawumia lauded by Jinapor
Commenting on the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Mr Jinapor indicated that the Vice President has over the years won for himself a strong and enviable relationship with the Chiefs of the Gonjaland.
According to the Damongo legislator, the Vice President is known to all chiefdoms and palaces in the Savannah Region following his continuous service to the various paramouncies and the people of Yagbon.
“I want to say that the Vice President, His Excellency Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is not a stranger to this [Kpansheigu] Palace. The Vice President is not a stranger and I dare say that Dr Bawumia is not a stranger to any palace in Yagbon in Gonjaland. He has been serving the Gonja Chiefs for many many years and has been serving the skins of Gonja for many years.”

Mr Jinapor stated that the Vice President has visited the Jakpa palace more than anyone has as he “literally lives there [and] sleeps there because he sees himself as a ‘Gonjalander’ and sees himself as a son and grandson” of Jakpa. He highlighted that all of Gonja has also accepted him as a brother, junior father and a family member.
Dr Bawumia is widely tipped to lead the governing New Patriotic Party as flagbearer in the 2024 elections, a bid which has received massive endorsement from grassroots, notable and leading members of the party.
At his 59th birthday celebration, several felicitations to him contained declaration and support for the yet to be announced ambition, a development election watchers have asserted puts the Vice President in the lead in the upcoming presidential primaries of the party.
