The Organizers of the Occupy Jubilee House Protest, Democracy Hub have stated that its scheduled protest will come off tomorrow, Thursday 21 September, 2023 despite claims by the Ghana Police Service that it has secured a court order against it.

In a statement signed by its Convenor, Oliver Barker Vormawor, the organizers of the Protest denied claims by the Ghana Police Service that it has served a court order to restrain the organizers of the Occupy Jubilee House Protest from engaging in its protest tomorrow, Thursday 21 September, 2023.

“Our attention has been drawn to a last-minute press statement released by the Ghana Police Service claiming that they have applied to prohibit the lawful exercise of our rights to demonstrate. We wish to put it on record that the Ghana Police Service has not served us with any application and we are unaware of what exactly the police application is about”.

According to the Organizers of the protest, it is appalled by the partisan attempts by the Ghana Police Service to deliberately disrupt its intended peaceful and democratic protest. The Convenor of the Organizers of the Protest also stated that the actions of the Ghana Police Service are not in line with the laws of Ghana.

“Furthermore, we want the general public to know that throughout our engagement with the Police, they kept up ruse, making us believe that they will respect the law and fulfil their obligations under the Public Order Act”.

The organizers of the #Occupy Jubilee House protest further emphasized that its protest would come off tomorrow, Thursday, 21 September 2 2023.

According to the group, the decision is in line with the legal position that has been taken by the Government of Ghana, and the Electoral Commission that the mere filing of an application does not prevent the exercise of constitutional rights.

“We invite the general public to disregard a statement which is riddled with misinformation. Our Picket will proceed as planned”.

The group has therefore called on the general public to assemble at the 37 Trotro Station from 6:30 am tomorrow for the march to the ‘Julorbi House’.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service claimed it has applied to the court to halt the planned demonstration by a group within the vicinity of the Jubilee House from Thursday 21st to Saturday 23rd September 2023.

The police stated in a statement that they are awaiting the outcome of the case from the court before taking any further action. Therefore, the police have warned the general public to ignore any calls from people or organizations urging them to gather for a protest at the Jubilee House.

For the sake of maintaining public order and safety, the police also pleaded with the demonstration organizers to respect the law.

The group called Democracy Hub has charged President Akuffo Addo and the New Patriotic Party administration for poor economic management and urged better aid for the distressed Ghanaians.

Its protest takes place on the same day that the nation will mark Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day.
