The Office of Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has refuted myjoyonline.com’s report that Mr. Bawumia has said “these days there are jobs everywhere.”

In a statement, the Vice President’s office stated that the report by Joyfm, is a complete misrepresentation of what Mr. Bawumia said at Mpraeso in the Eastern region.

“The attention of the Office of the Vice President has been drawn to a quote in a myjoyonline.com news report titled: “We’ve created 2.1m jobs unlike the NDC who created unemployment – Dr. Bawumia”, which was published on Saturday April 7, 2023.

“The story quoted Dr. Bawumia as saying: “During the NDC administration, there were no jobs, they created unemployment instead of employment, BUT THESE DAYS THERE ARE JOBS EVERYWHERE.”

Office of The Vice President

The Office continued: “The Office of the Vice President wishes to state for record that portions of the quote were fabricated, as nowhere in the Vice President’s address at Mpraeso did he say, “these days there are jobs everywhere,” as was reported by myjoyonline.com and shared by its social media handles.”

According to the Office, it finds it strange that comments Mr. Bawumia did not utter “found their way in the story and attributed to him in a direct quote. The misrepresentation is still highlighted on some social media platforms of multimedia such as Joy News.”

“We have been compelled to set the records straight, as many unsuspecting readers may not have the benefit of the full address of the Vice President’s address. We ask that a media house of the stature of Joyfm retract and delete the fabricated quotes and apologize for what can only be described as unprofessional conduct, on the part of some of its employees who engaged in this fabrication.”

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Saturday claimed that the Akufo-Addo-led government has created more sustainable jobs than any government in Ghana’s history.

Addressing party supporters at Mpraeso after a health walk Saturday morning, Dr Bawumia averred the government has created 2.1 million jobs since 2017.

“During the NDC administration, there were no jobs…they were not creating jobs. We had the graduate unemployed association…but I have been looking at the data lately and NPP, we have created 2.1 million jobs.”

“Every department, we can show progress for this country, but we want to go further, we can get to the promised land. We can be a Dubai, we can be a South Korea, we can be a Singapore, it is possible.”

Sammy Gyamfi Does Not Believe In Bawumia’s Claims

The National communications officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi,  slammed Veep Bawumia over his comment on 2.1 million jobs created since 2017.

Veep Bawumia’s comment triggered a reaction from Communications officer, Sammy Gyamfi, who calls him out as a liar.

“Bawumia will occupy a comfortable place in the Guinness Book of Records of Lies. Official rate of unemployment has almost doubled from 8.4% in 2016 to 14% as of 2021, according to the GSS. Youth unemployment is at an all-time high. Massive job losses have become the order of the day, due to the economic mismanagement of the Bawumia-led EMT.

“Yet, our unrepentant liar of a VEEP, claims his government has created 2.1 million jobs. What a joke! The name BAWUMIA will occupy a comfortable place in the Guinness Book of Lies”.

Moreover, many reactions have been triggered by a section of Ghanaian youths, describing Veep’s comment as lies.
