Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikoi South, Honorable Darkoa Newman, has donated some relief items to the students who were affected in the fire that gutted some dormitories at Accra Academy Senior High School.
She provided these items as she paid a visit to the school today, where she pledged to help the management of the school to fix the dormitories and also find out what was the cause of the fire yesterday, June 23, 2021.
“We are all going to come together to see to the situation. We are going to do whatever it is to ensure that it does not happen again. This issue of the fire in the dormitory, we will do it. So, that is our commitment to what happened yesterday.”

The Okaikoi South MP further assured the management and;the students of her commitment to ensuring their protection whiles they are in school.
“We have apologized to the students and have assured them of our commitment to ensuring that they are protected and;they do not have to go through this trauma of losing everything they own.
“So, at this point we will have to meet with the headmaster because I wanted to see the old report [of old fire outbreak in the school], the recommendations made, the part the school has played and we will know what to do.”

Fire outbreak at Accra Academy
Reports have it that in the late hours of yesterday,;fire gutted some part of a dormitory block at the Accra Academy Senior High School destroying some student’s items.

Over 20 students of Accra Academy were left devastated after they lost all their belongings in a fire that ravaged their dormitory.
The fire which is said to have begun at around 7:30 pm,;Wednesday night, is said to have started from the ironing room.
Belongings of students including their trunks,;chop boxes, beds and other valuables which may include money were totally destroyed in the fire. Also reports have it that there has been no casualty of injury because the fire started at the time the students were at prep.
The Ghana National Fire Service which was at the scene to douse the flames said their investigation will soon unravel the cause of the fire.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the fire service,;Ellis Robinson Okoe who gave the report said it was at about 19:46 pm when they got a distress call that there was a fire outbreak at Accra Academy School.
He said upon the arrival of his team,;they realized five of the dormitories were on fire and fortunately they were able to bring the fire under control.
“We had to engage three of our fire engines to ensure that we bring the fire under control. We don’t have the cause of fire now, so we will investigate and get the cause of fire.”

Also reports have it that the school authorities have met the students and the measures and support will be given afterwards. The fire fighters have also begun investigations to ascertain the actual cause of the fire.
