The Ghana Police Service has announced that it has successfully restored order in Ntotroso, located in the Ahafo Region, after an attempted security breach at the Newmont mining site on the night of Wednesday, 8th January 2025.
According to reports, a group of individuals allegedly attempted to infiltrate the site with the intention of stealing gold.
The swift response by the police ensured that the situation was brought under control, preventing any significant disruption or loss.
“During the operation to contain the situation, the Police confronted the suspects, leading to the death of three persons and injuries to four others.
“The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, worked on the phone with the Regional Police team to engage community leaders and the youth throughout the night till this morning to stabilize the situation and there has been no reprisal attacks or escalation of the situation in the community”.

The Police further stated that a special investigation team from Accra has been deployed to the area to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.
This specialized team will work to uncover the details surrounding the attempted breach and identify those responsible.
Additionally, a reinforcement team has been dispatched to Ntotroso to bolster local security efforts.
Their presence aims to maintain peace and order within the community, ensuring that residents feel secure and that the situation remains stable.

The Police noted that they had received information indicating that the three deceased victims were Muslims.
In accordance with Islamic traditions and the sensitivities surrounding the matter, the police are ensuring that the due process of the law is meticulously followed.
This includes coordinating with the families of the deceased to facilitate the prompt release of the bodies for burial, which is expected to take place later today.
The authorities are working closely with the families to respect their cultural and religious practices while ensuring that all legal protocols are adhered to during this process.
