The Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party, which is currently in power, Richard Ahigbah has condemned comments made by Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe describing President Akuffo Addo as a “packaged human rights advocate” as unfortunate.
In a tweet, Mr. Ahiagbah stated that Mr. Edzudzi Tamakloe’s comment can only be a product of partisan exuberance because the records of President Akufo-Addo’s advocacy are of public record and verifiable.
According to the New Patriotic Party Director of Communications, the value of President Akufo-Addo’s advocacy is the basis for the mass support for his candidacy in 2008, first round which he secured 49% and eventually the massive endorsement in 2016, over a million votes to become the President of Ghana.
“An unfortunate comment on TV3 Newday this morning by my good brother Edudzi Tamakloe, saying President Akufo-Addo is a packaged human rights advocate. Tell me any President who has won with more votes than Akufo-Addo? So, Akufo-Addo’s record is known, acknowledged, and rewarded”.
Richard Ahigbah
Mr Ahigbah noted that the regrettable challenge suffered by the Democracy Hub demonstrators during their protest on Thursday 21 September 2023 cannot in any way define President Akufo-Addo’s record as an avid human rights advocate.
He further emphasized that the New Patriotic Party does not support brutalities in any form whether justifiable or unjustifiable against citizens and indicated that the party has condemned the actions of the Ghana Police Service.
“It is an occurrence that I have personally condemned, and I am sure the Ghana Police Service will learn from it”.

NPP Determined To Fix Economic Challenges Facing Ghana
The Director of Communications for the ruling New Patriotic Party also stated that President Akuffo Addo’s administration is focused on solving the very concerns raised by the demonstrators of Occupy the Jubilee House Protest.
“Recall the 4.2% rebound of the economy at mid-term, the strong push with PFJ Phase II to achieve domestic food security and export will do wonders for food prices, inflation, and stability of the currency, among others”.
Richard Ahigbah
According to Mr. Ahigbah, the historic increase in the producer price of cocoa will have a direct impact on the local economies. He emphasized that the New Patriotic Party administration is working very hard to solve all concerns that have been expressed by the demonstrators. He believes within the shortest possible time such concerns shall all be addressed by President Akuffo Addo and the New Patriotic Party administration.
Mr. Ahigbah therefore assured the demonstrators of the Occupy the Jubilee House Protest and all Ghanaians in general that the present challenge with the Ghanaian economy would be resolved because when the New Patriotic Party took over in 2017 from the National Democratic Congress administration, the economy was in decline, but the government turned it around quickly, growing it on average of 7% over three successive years.
He stressed that it is possible for the New Patriotic Party administration to achieve greater economic output for Ghana.
The Director of Legal Affairs for the opposition National Democratic Congress described President Akuffo Addo as a “packaged human rights advocate” following the attacks and brutalities against protesters of the #OccupyJulorbiHouse protest on Thursday 21 September 2023.
The group called Democracy Hub led a three-day protest to express its disappointment at what it described as the poor economic management of the country by President Akuffo Addo and the New Patriotic Party administration.
Its protest began on Thursday, 21 September 2023, on the same day that the nation commemorated its first President’s birthday, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day,.
The protesters insisted on marching to the Jubilee House, the seat of the presidency but were, however, stopped by the police leading to reports of molestations and abuse of the protesters by officers of the Ghana Police Service.
