President Akufo Addo Delivers New Year’s Message to Ghanaians

H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President of the Republic of Ghana

As Ghana ushers in 2025, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered his final New Year’s message as president, reflecting on his tenure and inspiring hope for the country’s future.

With gratitude and optimism, the President emphasized Ghana’s achievements, acknowledged its challenges of the past years.

President Akufo-Addo opened his address by acknowledging the collective effort and shared journey of Ghanaians.

“Tonight [Tuesday], families across the nation are united in celebration, looking forward with hope and faith to the promise of 2025. It is a moment to give thanks to Almighty God for the journey we have traveled together and to renew our collective commitment to the brighter future we all seek for Ghana.”

“Serving you has been the greatest honor of my life. I stand before you not just as a leader, but as a fellow Ghanaian, humbled by the trust you have placed in me.”

Reflecting on the accomplishments of his administration, President Akufo-Addo highlighted transformative policies and initiatives that have shaped Ghana’s development. These include the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy among others. He emphasized;

“The Free Senior High School policy has given hope to millions of young Ghanaians and their families. We’ve seen our health care system strengthened, our roads expanded, our industry strengthened, our agriculture revitalized, and our digital landscape transformed.”

The President also drew attention to the country’s economic rebound, particularly after the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. He noted;

“Our economy is rebounding impressively, as demonstrated by the remarkable 7.2% growth achieved in the third quarter of 2024, with the year’s growth rate projected at 6.8%.”

He emphasized that these numbers represent more than statistics, ”they are stories of lives changed and futures made brighter,” he added.

President Akufo-Addo also acknowledged the challenges encountered during his presidency. He reiterated;

“The road has not always been smooth, and there have been times of difficulty and sacrifice. Yet through it all, the indomitable Ghanaian spirit has prevailed.”

As Ghana steps into the New Year, the President urged citizens to remain hopeful and committed. He added;

“Ghana’s story is not about her leaders; it’s about her people. Each of us has a role to play in building the nation we envision.”

Addressing the youth, he said; “You are the heartbeat of our future. Your energy, creativity, and dreams are what will drive this nation forward. Dream big, work hard, and know that the future is yours to shape.”

To various sectors of society, including farmers, teachers, health workers, and public officers, he extended heartfelt gratitude; “You are the backbone of our society, and your contributions make Ghana what she is.”

President Akufo-Addo highlighted the peaceful transition of power following the recent elections.

“Some three weeks ago, our nation once again stood tall in Africa and the world with the peaceful election of a new president and new members of parliament, reaffirming our status as a beacon of democracy.”

He congratulated the newly elected leaders while cautioning against electoral violence. He stressed;

“The pursuit of power should never be synonymous with violence. It must always reflect a solemn commitment to serve the people.”

Optimism for Ghana’s Future, a people of Resilience and Goodwill

He emphasized the solid foundation laid during his presidency and his belief in the country’s resilience and its ability to achieve more. He reaffirmed;

“Ghana is destined for greatness, and the strength of our people will achieve it. The foundation we’ve built together over the last eight years will continue to grow.”

The President concluded his message by encouraging Ghanaians to embrace the New Year with optimism. He admonished;

“May 2025 bring our families joy, peace, and abundant blessings. Let us step into the New Year with hope in our hearts and determination in our steps, knowing that together there is nothing we cannot achieve.”

Finally, he eneded his address by invoking a prayer for Ghana; “May God bless us all in our homeland Ghana, and make her great and strong,” he prayed.

President Akufo-Addo’s final New Year’s message encapsulated his gratitude, reflections on achievements, and optimism for the future.

It served as a testament to his belief in the resilience and potential of the Ghanaian people, setting the tone for the new administration to continue the journey of progress.
