In his final State of the Nation Address, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reflected on his administration’s significant accomplishments across key sectors of Ghana’s economy.
Delivered to Parliament, the address highlighted milestones in infrastructure, agriculture, energy, governance, and youth development, emphasizing the transformative impact of his policies.
President Akufo-Addo underscored his government’s achievements in the railway sector, which had been a key focus of his administration. He stated;
“We have revitalized Ghana’s railway sector, undertaking key projects to modernize and expand the network. Notable achievements include the rehabilitation of the 66-kilometer narrow gauge Western Line from Kojokrom to Tarkwa and the construction of the 22-kilometer standard gauge line between Kojokrom and Manso.”

The President also highlighted funding secured to extend the Western Line from Manso – Huni Valley, connecting to the Takoradi Port, and ongoing work on a six-kilometer standard gauge line in Kumasi. The Tema-Mpakadan railway line was completed, further enhancing regional connectivity.
Progress on the Ghana-Burkina Faso railway project was also noted as a step towards improving regional trade and integration.
In addressing housing, President Akufo-Addo shared strides made to tackle Ghana’s housing deficit. He remarked;
“Over the period, we built 10,070 affordable housing units and broke ground for an additional 800 in the Greater Accra Region. The National Home and Research Fund has delivered 534 homes in the Tema Community 22 area.”

Additionally, the president stated that 1,000 homes were delivered to the security services, with 600 more underway for public servants through the redevelopment program.
The transport sector saw significant innovations, including the deployment of electric buses in major cities to reduce carbon emissions. President Akufo-Addo emphasized;
“These advancements save Ghana’s commitment to building sustainable transport infrastructure for the future.”

He also celebrated achievements in the maritime sector, highlighting the transformation of Takoradi Port into a world-class facility.
“In November 2024, I commissioned the state-of-the-art oil and gas services terminal—a $100 million investment serving as a hub for oilfield operators, logistics service providers, and other key players in the energy sector.”

The construction of a modern port at Keta and initiatives to enhance the country’s logistics infrastructure were also acknowledged.
President Akufo-Addo lauded his administration’s investment in agriculture and the Energy sector, which has driven significant growth to the country. On agriculture he stated;
“Through the distribution of over 2.7 million bags of fertilizers and improved seedlings, we have increased crop yields and enhanced food security. Maize production increased by 110%, rice by 48%, and soybean by 150% between 2017 and 2023.”

According to him, the establishment of 140 mechanization centers, irrigation schemes, and warehouse facilities under the One District, One Warehouse initiative reduced post-harvest losses by 30%.
Cocoa production was highlighted as a success story, with productivity rising from 450 kilograms per hectare to 800 kilograms per hectare.

Additionally, President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to solving Ghana’s energy crisis. He stated; “I inherited a nation plagued by ‘dumsor,’ but I am proud to say I leave office with the lights on.”
Despite inheriting an energy sector legacy debt of $2.5 billion, strategic negotiations and financial management prevented it from ballooning to $12.5 billion, stabilizing the sector while maintaining uninterrupted power supply.
Renewable energy projects such as the 4 MW solar PV plant at Bui and the 15 MW solar PV facility at Kaleo were milestones in achieving Ghana’s 10% renewable energy target by 2030.
Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship
The President celebrated investments in youth programs and entrepreneurship, citing initiatives like the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program (NEIP).
“We have supported 15,000 startups, trained 250,000 young entrepreneurs, and created over 100,000 jobs through the NEIP and other initiatives like UStart and the Ghana CARES Obaatampa program.”

The construction of 150 Astroturf pitches and the successful hosting of the 2023 All Africa Games were achievements in sports development.
Tourism initiatives, including the “Year of Return” and “Beyond the Return” campaigns, attracted over 1.5 million visitors and strengthened ties with the African diaspora. He noted;
“The renovation of the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum into a world-class facility honors his legacy and attracts visitors from around the globe.”

The commissioning of the Nationalism Park and the proposed Heroes Path further bolstered Ghana’s historical and cultural offerings.
Reflecting on his tenure, President Akufo-Addo acknowledged both challenges and achievements. From creating six new regions to stabilizing the energy sector, modernizing infrastructure, and empowering youth, his administration leaves a legacy of transformation. He lauded;
“Behind every road, railway, and bridge is a story of lives transformed—farmers reaching markets, students accessing schools, and families connected.”

As his tenure ends, the President expressed confidence in the foundations laid for Ghana’s sustainable development.
