In a significant move to strengthen local governance, President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across eight regions in Ghana.
This appointment, made in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20(1) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended, aims to enhance local administration and ensure efficient governance at the district level.
A formal statement issued by the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, confirmed the nominations.
The appointments, pending approval by the respective District Assemblies, are expected to fill key administrative positions that have remained vacant or require new leadership to drive local development initiatives.
The nomination of these district executives is a crucial step in President Mahama’s commitment to decentralization and local governance.
By selecting competent individuals with diverse backgrounds, the administration seeks to promote grassroots development, improve service delivery, and foster socio-economic progress in various districts.
A comprehensive list of nominees was provided by the Office of the President through a statement signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama.
