The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Parliament has been changed and as a result, some members are in bliss about it, others are still in a dilemma whiles the majority in the NDC are still against the decisions being made by the hierarchy on their behalf with ‘zero consent.’
According to the party, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has taken over from Haruna Iddrisu as the new Minority Leader. Ellembelle MP, Kofi Armah Boah will replace James Klutse Avedzi as Deputy Minority Leader. Kwame Agbodza is now the Chief Whip for the opposition side and will be deputized by Banda MP, Ahmed Ibrahim and Ada legislator, Comfort Doyo Ghansah respectively.
The chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia puts it forth that the reshuffling was a part of the reorganization process of the structural frame of the NDC to position themselves quite well to fight during the 2024 elections to gain political power.
The public profile of the newly elected leadership of the New Democratic Congress (NDC) of the Republic of Ghana, which is the minority group in parliament, are as follows;
Dr Cassiel Ato Forson
The new Minority Leader who replaced Honorable Haruna Iddrisu, volleys from Ajumako Bisease in the Central Region and was born on Saturday, 5th August 1978. He had his GCE O Levels in 1994 and holds a BSc. (Accounting and Finance) since 2003, an MSc. Economics (Macro-Economics) in 2016 and Ph.D. (Finance) in 2020.
The new Minority leader became a Chartered Accountant in 2015, then a Chartered Tax Practitioner in 2018 and acquired his MSc in Taxation (Tax and Public Policy) in 2020. His previous jobs included; Managing Director of Concepts-Online LTD, Former Deputy Minister of Finance, and Chairman of OMEGA Africa Holding LTD.
Since becoming a Member of Parliament, he has served as a member of the following committees; Finance Committee, Ranking Member, Foreign Affairs Committee, and Selection Committee. He has been a Member of the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Parliaments.
Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah
The new Deputy Minority leader who replaced James Klutse Avedzi, hails from Atuabo in the Western Region. He was born on Tuesday, 10th May 1966. He is a Christian and has been in Parliament for the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th Parliaments.
He has a Degree in Bachelor of Administration (Social Science (Law)) from 1991, he also has a Certificate for Advanced Management from 2005, and a Master’s Degree in Management (2000). He has been a member of some committees in his lifetime of servitude such as the Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee (Ranking Member), the Privileges Committee and the Mines and Energy Committee.
Mr. Armah Kofi Buah’s employment history includes; a postmaster with US Postal Service, then he became a Member of Parliament, a Minister of Petroleum, and then a Deputy Minister of Power and Petroleum respectively.
Kwame Governs Agbodza
The new Minority Whip who replaced Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka, the member of parliament for Asawase, is a native of the Adaklu Kordiabe township of Ho in the Volta Region. He is a Christian and was born on Saturday, 22nd September 1973. He acquired a bachelor’s degree in Architecture in the year 2000 and a postgraduate Diploma in Architecture from Westminster University, London (2010). He worked as a Partner at Kay plus partners LTD.
Honorable Agboza served as a ranking member of the Roads and Transport Committee, he served as a Judicial Committee member and also as a member of the Environment Science and Technology Committee. He has served as an MP for the 6th, 7th and 8th Parliaments.
Ahmed Ibrahim
The new First Deputy Chief Whip was born on the 6th of May, 1974. He comes from Banda Ahenkro, a town located in the West-northern part of the Bono Region. He is a Christian and was a member of the 5th, 6th, and 7th NDC parliaments.
He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with Philosophy in 2002 an an MBA in Finance in 2019. He served as the CEO of Flamingo Publications in his previous employment before parliament.
He was a committee member of the Special Budget Committee, the Communications Committee, the local Government and Rural Development Committee and, the Business Committee.
Comfort Doyo Ghansah
Honorable Comfort Doyo Ghansah, the new Second Deputy Minority Whip of parliament was born on Friday, 3rd November, 1967 and hailing from Ada in the Volta Region. She is a Christian and was a member of the 7th Parliament of the NDC.
She acquired a certificate in journalism and communications in the year 2012, and a certificate in Executive Education (Women and Power) in 2018. She has served as a member of the following committees in the past; Gender and Children Committee, Education Committee, and the Committee of Selection Committee.
