General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketiah

General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketiah has intimated that, it is time the citizens of the nation rise up an defend the democracy their forefathers fought for.

His comment comes on the back of the alleged flawed results, released by the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa, yesterday, 9th December, 2020.

Speaking during an emergency press briefing at the party headquarters, he said that, they had scheduled a meeting with the Electoral Commission to resolve all anomalies related to the final results.

Touching on the remaining results on the parliamentary polls, he revealed that, the NDC is doing their part and also urging the Electoral Commission to do its part in ensuring accurate collation of results.

He then disclosed the party’s readiness to challenge any inaccurate outcome of the presidential results while maintaining their stand in rejecting the declared Presidential results.

“Presidential election results are declared at the poling stations. Let them know that we have our pink sheets ready.”

He further alleged that, the EC upon realization of the losses of the NPP in the parliamentary seats, maneuvered its way to tamper with some of the results which unfortunately did not work in some constituencies.

He revealed that, the EC on Thursday, December 10, 2020, upon several collations has declared the Upper Denkyira West seat as that of the NDC.

He said the NDC is resisting the declared results from the presiding officer of the Zabzugu Tatale constituency and has urged them to have a relook by following through the proper channels of collation and conformity to laid-down rules.

He further urged the Tarkwa Nsuayem and the Sehwi Woaso constituents and collation officer to also go back and undertake a proper collation exercise to bring out the actual results.

Mr. Aseidu Nketiah then urged the people of Tamale to emulate the likes of Techiman and Zabzugu Tatale to stand firmly and protect their ballots.

Touching on violence during the collation exercise, he revealed that, some NDC strong holds had been attacked and urged for measures to be taken against it adding that these attempts were deliberate.

“We want to send a strong signal to the government that, the violent activities cannot be happening on the blind side of the government.”

The National Democratic Congress yesterday, said it will not accept the result of the 2020 presidential elections as announced by the Electoral Commission due to overwhelming evidence which proves that the party’s candidate, John Dramani Mahama won the 2020 election.

The party stated that the evidence available to them makes it impossible for them to accept the spurious and hurried conclusion of the Electoral Commission of Ghana and thus will vehemently reject and resist the results of the elections as declared.

The NDC added that, it intends to take decisive and concrete steps both with the Presidential and Parliamentary results to overturn this brazen and shameless attack on the country’s fledgling democracy.
