NPP Presidential Primaries; The Nightmare Of Pyrrhic Victory For VEEP

The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Sammy Gyamfi Esq has described the performance of the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the New Patriotic Party presidential primaries as embarrassing.

According to the outspoken Communicator, despite the ‘unprecedented vote-buying and personal phone calls’ to delegates by the Vice President and his Campaign Team, a significant number of the NPP delegates totaling 74,236 and constituting a whopping 39% voted against the Vice President’s candidature in the New Patriotic Party’s National Delegates Conference.

He mocked the Vice President for losing two regions and almost fifty constituencies to the Assin Central Member of Parliament, Honorable Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

“This makes him the first NPP flag-bearer to be elected by less than 62% of valid votes cast since the NPP expanded their electoral college in 2010. This is an embarrassing vote of no confidence in his leadership by almost 40% of delegates in his party. This fact becomes apparent when contrasted with the 98.9% of valid votes obtained by H. E John Mahama in the 2023 NDC’s primary and the 78.89% and 94.4% obtained by Candidate Akufo-Addo in the 2010 and 2014 NPP primaries, respectively”.

Mr Sammy Gyamfi further chastised the Vice President for running his campaign not based on competence but rather on ethnicity and religion describing him as a man ‘bereft of credibility and vision; a man who has proven time and again to be a pathological liar’.

VEEP Accused of Incompetence

Again, the National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress chided the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for his failure to discharge his mandate as the head of the government Economic Management Team leading to economic hardship in the country.

He described the Vice President’s management of the economy as the worst since the inception of Ghana’s fourth republic and chastised the Vice President for running away from accountability after such ‘abysmal performance’.

“In opposition, Bawumia waxed lyrical about the economy and propounded lofty textbook theories on prudent economic management.  He was selected as running mate due to his background as an economist and eventually became Vice President and Chairman of the Economic Management Team- a position he has held for almost seven (7) years.

“Ghanaians were told that he was the economic wizkid and messiah who was coming to transform the economy and bring about growth, jobs and prosperity for all.  Ghanaians currently find themselves in a total mess. Hopelessness, recklessness, bankruptcy, hardships, corruption and nepotism define the current state of our nation today. This mess is a product of bad leadership and nothing more”.

Sammy Gyamfi Esq.

According to Sammy Gyamfi Esq. Ghana needs a total change from a leader who dares to take up responsibility and address the numerous challenges the country is saddled with.

He noted that the National Democratic Congress flagbearer and the former President, John Dramani Mahama is undoubtedly the kind of leader Ghanaians need in such difficult times.

Moreover, Sammy Gyamfi Esq. accused the New Patriotic Party particularly the Vice President of lacking solutions to the problems facing the country and urged Ghanaians not to give the current government another chance as such would be detrimental to the country.

“What Ghana needs is CHANGE – a message that has even been amplified by leading figures of the NPP such as Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Arthur Kennedy, Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe, and Dr Amoako Baah, among others.  Ghanaians don’t need a President who is a pathological liar with no track record save his reckless mismanagement of the economy which has rendered our nation bankrupt; We don’t need the very person who has masterminded and supervised the economic mess and hardships we find ourselves in as President- for ‘no problem can be solved with the same consciousness that created it as stated by Albert Einstein”.

Sammy Gyamfi Esq.

Additionally, the opposition National Democratic Congress National Communications Officer accused President Akufo-Addo of sponsoring the ambitions of the Vice President to become President of Ghana and cautioned Ghanaians not to vote for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as a vote for him would be an extension of the terms of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his ‘corrupt family and friends’.

“More importantly, Ghanaians don’t need a puppet as President, whose primary goal is to protect his Godfather- President Akufo-Addo and his corrupt family, friends and appointees from post-regime accountability. Any objective analyst will agree that Bawumia is not even an option let alone an alternative. He has nothing new to offer. He ought to be held responsible and punished for the excruciating hardships and economic mess he has plunged Ghanaians into. And I do not doubt in my mind that the majority of the Ghanaian electorate will do this come December 7, 2024”.
