The Deputy Minority leader, Honorable Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah has indicated that the claim that President Akuffo Addo turned on valve to commemorate the first oil from Jubilee South East Area is very misleading.
According to the Member of Parliament for Ellembele Constituency, the Jubilee South East Area Projects is not a new oil field but simply part of a phased development from the Greater Jubilee field.
The former Minister of Energy also accused President Akufo Addo that in the last seven years that he has been in power, his administration has not added a single new producing field to Ghana’s three oil fields; namely the Jubilee, TEN, and OCTP (Sankofa and Gye Nyame fields) which were all developed by the NDC government during President Mills and Mahama’s era.
“It’s instructive to note that the Jubilee South East Project is not a new producing field but rather came about as a result of several discoveries made by Tullow Oil (the operator) alongside its joint venture partners between 2007 and 2012 in their west cape three point block (WCTP)”.

The legislator argues that not all of these discoveries were included in the initial Phase One development due to the phased development approach agreed upon between the government and the Jubilee partners which was the reason some of the discoveries were not added to the first Jubilee Field Development.

He further noted that the Jubilee South East (JSE) production well which has now been brought on stream is part of the oil and gas reservoirs encountered by wells such as Mahogany 3, Mahogany 4, which were drilled between 2009 and 2011, and Mahogany Deep-2.
“The partners have just drilled injectors and oil producers into key reservoirs to maintain and optimize oil production. The current oil production from the JSE is not occasioned by any new government discovery of the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia- led government”.

Honourable Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah also disclosed that there are additional undeveloped reserves within the Greater Jubilee Field, which the jubilee partners have been approved to drill.
He accused President Akuffo Addo of missing the golden opportunity to join the late President Mills and President Mahama in adding a fourth oil-producing field if his government had not botched the Aker development.
On September 8, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo went to the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah to open the valve and mark the formal start of oil production from the Jubilee South East Area.
By the end of this year, the total oil production at the Jubilee Field is anticipated to reach 100,000 barrels per day thanks to the addition of 30,000 barrels of oil per day from the Jubilee South-East Area to the larger Jubilee Field.
The Jubilee South-East Area is a joint venture that has received a $1 billion investment from its partners.
President Akufo-Addo declared this to be in fulfilment of the government’s goal of expanding the Ghanaian petroleum industry after opening the valve.
“As we commemorate the delivery of the Jubilee South East project and the attainment of the first oil, I commend warmly the dedicated operator of the Jubilee Field, Tullow Ghana Limited. Tullow in collaboration with its partners, had shown exceptional commitment in making this achievement possible. It is truly a moment of joy for us all and a testimony of what collaboration and strategic partnership can do. The success of the South East project aligns with the broader Jubilee Field plan.”

The Jubilee South East project is a partnership between six oil corporations, including Tullow Oil, Kosmos Energy, Kosmos Energy Ghana Investments, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, PetroSA, and Jubilee Oil Holdings Limited.
