The President And His Appointees Are Back at Work – Oppong Nkrumah

Minister of Information - Kojo Oppong Nkrumah

The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says President Akufo-Addo and his Ministers and Appointees are back in office, conducting the day to day running of the country.

He said the objective is to wrap up the government’s business for this year. He indicated that, the President is as of today, December 10, 2020, working from the Jubilee house and also receiving congratulatory messages from Heads of States of other countries, as well as local and international organizations and their heads on his re-election.

Speaking at a press briefing, he disclosed the nation is being applauded by the global community and observer missions for the conduct of a peaceful election which he said, shows that Ghana’s young democracy is growing.

The Information Minister affirmed the President’s expectation of the swift dispensing of the duties of his appointees to ensure that outstanding government programmes for the year are executed.

“If you’ve followed what the Joint African Union and ECOWAS MISSION said of our elections, they mentioned that, among other things, they commend Ghana for the peaceful conduct of the 7th December 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections. It’s in line with Ghana’s enviable track record in organizing peaceful and successful elections since the return to multi-party democracy.

“Earlier today as well, CODEO addressed the media and outlined what they saw and the figures they have put together. I will read you just a paragraph of their conclusion. ‘Given that the official results announced by the Electoral Commission for each candidate falls within their respective PVT, estimate confidence ranges, CODEO can confidently affirm that its PVT estimates are consistent with official presidential election result.”

Honorable Oppong Nkrumah also on behalf of the Government of Ghana expressed its appreciation for the role the media played in the coverage of the 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections.

“We are particularly pleased with the level of professionalism with which the Ghanaian media covered activities before, during and after the elections. The media, as I’m sure you are aware, plays an indispensable role in the proper functioning of any democracy.

“You’ve been instrumental in assisting in first; voter education, second; digestion of manifestos, education on civil rights as the third matter, and then election day developments, as well as reporting on collation of results yourselves independently.

“We applaud your contributions and we urge that you continue to uphold the excellence with which you have conducted your coverage in the 2020 elections. The government of Ghana is hopeful that with our collective efforts, our countries democracy would be strengthened in a peaceful and sound environment.”
