We Met With A Businessman But None Of Us Took Money From Him -Andy Appiah Kubi

Hon Appiah Kubi, MP for Asante-Akim south

The Member of Parliament for Asante-Akim South Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Hon Andy Appiah Kubi has disclosed that some members of the Majority caucus in Parliament met with a businessman with regards to their call on the President to sack Ofori Atta, but none of them took money from him.

According to the Member of Parliament, the businessman wanted them to reconsider their stance of asking President Akuffo Addo to dismiss the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, a cousin of the President, following his inability to manage the economy of the nation very well, leading Ghanaians to the current economic crises they are experiencing.

Speaking on the ‘Ghana Montie’ morning show Today, November 2, Hon Appiah Kubi indicated that the businessman engaged them because he claims the removal of the Finance Minister will have a negative impact on businesses as well as interrupt the peace in the Akuffo Addo led government.

“What the Majority leader said is true. The truth is, the businessman who came to meet us wanted us to change our position, because he claims businesses will suffer and that the peace in the Akuffo Addo’s goverment will be disrupted.

“After the engagement, we told him that we will consider what he is suggested and compare it to the decisions we had made.”

Hon Kubi

However, Hon Kubi disclosed that after having the meeting with the said businessman, he tried offering them an amount of money as a sign of remberance of the meeting but he is very confident that no Member of Parliament took the money.

“He offered us an amount of money, i dont know the actual amount because we asked him to go with it and told him we are not doing this because of money or because we hate Ken.”

Hon Kubi

He further stated that he is not surprised some people from the Minority causcus are doubting them, because he would have not believed it either, should it have been the other way round.

I Dont Believe Any Businessman Tried To Give Them Money

Meanwhile, on the same platform, the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, Hon Kofi Iddie Adams, expressed disbelief in what Hon Andy Kubi and the Majority leader, Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said early on.

He stated that he does not believe any businessman tried giving the 80 now 95 Majority Members of Parliament who called for the dismissal of Ofori Atta any amount of money.

According to him, he is of the view that, it is a fabricated story by the MPs and an agenda to make Ghanaians know they are still against the President Keeping the minister.

“If they claim a businessman came to see them with an amount of money and they rejected his money, they should not allow Ken Ofori Atta be the one to read the budget as well as the government economic policy .”

Hon Kofi Adams

Mr Adams opined that the Majority Members who met the businessman should be courageous to mention his name to the public.

“They should mention his name, where they met him and the amount of money he offered them. I am not convinced with what they are trying to say.”

Hon Kofi Adams

He further noted that the MPs are doing this to seek mercy in the face of Ghanaians as they have realised their incompetency.
