Madam Theresa Lardi Awuni, Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei North, has said the NDC in the constituency, will ballot tremendously for Flagbearer hopeful, John Dramani Mahama, in the party’s upcoming flagbearership race on May, 13.
As said by the Okaikwei North MP, John Dramani Mahama is deemed the best person who can return power into the hands of the NDC. Speaking to the gathered folks during John Mahama’s visit to the constituency on Thursday, April 20, the first-term MP claimed that Ghanaians are suffering and need the saving knowledge of the NDC.
Madam Awuni averred the NDC cannot fail Ghanaians in this regard and as such, she re-assured John Mahama of her continued support before, during, and after the party’s flagbearership contest.
“I welcome you to Okaikwei North, the incoming President of the Republic of Ghana, our honorable Regional Chairman, and all protocols observed. This is Okaikwei North, we are the history makers. We are the ones who shook the foundations of the NPP, but we are still orphans because our father is not in the kitchen. Former President John Dramani Mahama is my father and my mentor.
“I remember when I told him I wanted to contest for NDC primaries in Okaikwei North, he looked at me quietly and challenged me and said, Theresa, go and deliver. I came back and sat with my executive and said; the man had only a few words, but the words are heavy. Your Excellency, we promised to deliver this seat to you as your birthday gift in 2020 and we did. We are now assuring you that we will give you 100 percent on May 13, so you lead the NDC to power again.”

Mahama Critiques Akufo-Addo For Giving Assent To 3 New Tax Bills
Former President John Dramani Mahama bemoaned the increasing tax burden that the NPP-led-government is placing on Ghanaians.
According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has not been truthful with its promise to move away from taxation to production. This comes on the back of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s decision to assent to the three new controversial revenue taxes into law.
Parliament on Friday, March 31, passed the Excise Duty Amendment Bill 2022, the Growth and Sustainability Levy Bill, 2022, the Ghana Revenue Authority Bill 2022 and the Income Tax Amendment Bill 2022.
However, speaking to delegates in the Trobu constituency, as part of his tour in the Greater Accra region, John Dramani Mahama stressed that the taxes have become a burden for the public.
“Prices at the various supermarkets have skyrocketed…Government has reneged on its promise of moving away from taxation to production, to the extent that even betting is taxed…Almost everything is taxed now.”

Moreover, John Dramani Mahama slammed government for seeking debt forgiveness from its external creditors. He claims this could have been prevented, if government had restrained itself in borrowing.
“The country wouldn’t have been in this economic mess, if government had not engaged in excessive borrowing. We are now seeking for debt forgiveness from external creditors.”
