Elon Musk, has revealed that he doesn’t own a home and has been sleeping on friends’ spare beds despite being ranked as the world’s richest man.
Speaking in an interview, Elon Musk noted that he did not currently have a home and was staying with friends around San Francisco’s Bay Area, near Tesla HQ, when working in the city.
“I don’t even own a place right now, I’m literally staying at friends’ places,” Elon said. “If I travel to the Bay Area, which is where most of Tesla’s engineering is, I basically rotate through friends’ spare bedrooms”.
The Tesla and Space X founder added that he does not own a yacht and did not take holidays in a defence of his billion-dollar wealth.
“I don’t have a yacht, I don’t take vacations, so it’s not like my personal consumption is high,” Mr. Musk said, adding that “One exception is a plane but if I don’t use the plane, I have less hours to work”.
Elon’s claims about his living condition came after he was asked about his opinion on people who were “hugely offended” by billionaires luxury and flashy lifestyle.
“I think there are some axiomatic flaws that are leading to that conclusion,” said Mr. Musk of the people who are “offended” by the wealth of billionaires. “For sure it would be problematic if I was consuming billions of dollars a year in personal consumption but that is not the case”.
Mr. Musk has an estimated net worth of $251 billion according to Bloomberg, and is the richest individual in the United States and the world. He is currently at the center of a $43 billion takeover bid of Twitter but has been set back by the company’s board.
Grimes Reveal Elon Lives Like a ‘Poor man’
It is worth noting that Musk’s long-term on-and-off partner, Grimes, recently caused controversy with an interview in March, in which she revealed that Elon “does not live like a billionaire”.
“He lives at times below the poverty line. To the point where I was like, can we not live in a very insecure $40,000 house? Where the neighbors film us, and there’s no security, and I’m eating peanut butter for seven days in a row?” Grimes questioned.
However, Grimes, who recently gave birth to the couple’s second child, was heavily condemned for suggesting Mr. Musk’s frugal lifestyle was equivalent to being “poor”.
Speaking of homes, just last week, Elon Musk noted that he is seriously considering converting Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters into a homeless shelter after becoming the company’s majority shareholder.
“Convert Twitter SF HQ to a homeless shelter since no one shows up anyway,” he tweeted, along with a poll allowing users to agree or disagree. More than 90 percent of nearly 2 million respondents voted ‘yes’ before the poll was deleted. He later tweeted that “I’m serious about this one by the way”.
