CAF and technical sponsor, Umbro, today, Friday, June 24, 2022, unveiled the official match ball for Africa’s flagship women’s football competition, the 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
African women’s football has shown a bright, colorful new face to the world as its stars command the world stage, playing in most of the top leagues in the world. As such, the official ball of the 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations was inspired by the new visual identity of African women’s football.
The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), being held in Morocco from 2nd to 23rd July, 2022 promises to be a spirited wave of energy and excitement as Africa’s elite women’s footballers battle it out for the title of queens of African football.
The tournament’s match ball’s strong identity is made of colors filled with symbols related to football.
It represents the values of unity, progress, challenge, initiative, diversity and experience that has characterized the growth of African women’s football to reach the lofty heights it occupies today.
The WAFCON takes place in the Moroccan host cities of Rabat and Casablanca and kicks off on Saturday July 2, at 21:30 Hrs when host, Morocco, faces Burkina Faso at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
Official tournament’s Official Mascot
Though the main attractions of the tournament will be the players on the pitch at the 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, but a new star TITRIT is ready to make her bow as the tournament’s Official Mascot.
CAF earlier this week, unveiled the WAFCON mascot, a lioness, a reference to Morocco’s Atlas Lions/Lionesses, an undeniable symbol of power and courage.

TITRIT is a Moroccan Berber name which means “star” or “celebrity” and which characterizes a proud, dignified, rigorous and determined person.
Naturally dressed in the colours of the Moroccan home team, a traditional Moroccan jewel in the form of a tiara regally, adorns the head of the lioness.
Combining authenticity and modernity, TITRIT’s Moroccan jewellery and traditional Selham cape, gives her a certain feminine majesty.
But the football boots on her feet ensures there’s no mistaking she’s here to play and ready to contribute to the festive atmosphere of WAFCON in the proud North African host country.
Her raised fist symbolizes the determination and tenacity shown by women’s footballers facing their opponents, qualities that will be needed for the titanic battles that lie in wait at the WAFCON 2022.
Some of the teams have already arrived in Morocco ahead of the tournament which kicks off in a week’s time.
Being the first team to arrive in Morocco, the Copper Queens of Zambia were able to test themselves against the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in a match that ended in 1-1 draw with Chanda scoring for the Zambian while Zulu scored an own goal.

The Copper Queens will open their Group B campaign against Cameroon on July 3 in their opening match at Mohammed V Stadium, Casablanca. The Zambians will come off against Tunisia three days later before closing the group stages with a clash against Togo on July 9, 2022.
Zambia standout player, Barbra Banda, will lead the Copper Queens squad for the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
