EPL Review: Liverpool, Manchester United ends in a stalemate

Liverpool and Manchester United could only play out a goalless draw at Anfield as a game billed as a title race marker failed to find a finish.

Liverpool, in Jurgen Klopp’s 200th Premier League game, found the breakthrough elusive as they dominated the ball for long spells but struggled for attacking fluidity, failing to score for a third Premier League game in a row.

The hosts’ long unbeaten league run on Merseyside however, never looked under real threat until late on, when Alisson made two vital saves to deny Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba from close range.

Kane celebrates goal against Sheffield United

Stunning goals from Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane helped inflict another defeat on Sheffield United whose troubles continued with a 3-1 defeat at Bramall Lane.

Serge Aurier headed Spurs ahead inside five minutes, before Kane added a second with a brilliant individual effort shortly before half-time.

David McGoldrick’s sixth goal of the season gave United hope of staging a second-half comeback, but their challenge was extinguished by a goal-of-the-season contender from Ndombele, whose outrageous lob restored Spurs’ two-goal cushion three minutes later.

Madison with first goal for Leicester

Goals from James Maddison and Harvey Barnes saw Leicester secure a 2-0 win over Southampton at the King Power Stadium.

Maddison’s seventh goal of the season gave the Foxes a half-time lead as he spun away from Jack Stephens to collect Youri Tielemans’ pass before firing high into the net beyond Alex McCarthy.

Stuart Armstrong came closest to rescuing a point for Southampton after his long-range shot struck the crossbar. Barnes sealed only Leicester’s fourth home win of the season in the fifth minute of stoppage time as he collected another Tielemans pass before confidently stroking his shot beyond McCarthy.

Mount (19) scores Chelsea winner

Mason Mount’s late strike gave Chelsea just a second Premier League win in seven games as they beat 10-man Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage.

Both sides had chances in the first half as Mason Mount struck the bar and Ivan Cavaleiro fluffed a clear opening for Fulham, but the game’s complexion changed just before half-time when Antonee Robinson was dismissed for a high challenge on Cesar Azpilicueta.

Chelsea created many chances in the second half, but were made to wait for the winner as Mount’s controlled half volley found the net from inside the box after Alphonse Areola’s weak punch clear from a cross.

John Stones celebrates

John Stones scored twice in a 4-0 Manchester City win against Crystal Palace, with Kevin De Bruyne registering his 100th Manchester City assist.

The hosts were in control throughout and took the lead with a milestone goal. De Bruyne nabbed his century of assists when Stones nodded home his first Premier League goal for the club.

Man City added another shortly after the break with a sensational strike from Ilkay Gundogan, before Stones slotted home his second of the evening after Vicente Guaita had initially saved Ruben Dias’ header.

Raheem Sterling rounded off the victory late on with a sublime free-kick as Man City extended their winning run to five Premier League games.

West brom with 1st win under Allardyce

Sam Allardyce secured his first win as West Brom boss as they breathed new life into their bid for Premier League survival with a 3-2 Black Country derby victory at Wolves.

Matheus Pereira gave the visitors an early lead from the penalty spot after Willy Boly’s foul on Callum Robinson, but Wolves hit back as two goals in five minutes from Fabio Silva and Boly to send them in at the break with the lead.

West Brom responded early in the second half through defender Semi Ajayi before Pereira’s second penalty of the afternoon – after Conor Coady brought down Robinson – sealed Allardyce’s first win in charge of Albion.

Neal Maupay

Leeds were haunted by Neal Maupay once again as his goal earned Brighton a 1-0 victory at Elland Road which ended their nine-game winless Premier League run.

Maupay tapped home the only goal of the game in the 17th minute after some superb Brighton play, and the striker has now scored more league goals against Leeds – four in five appearances – than against any other opponent in his English career.

Brighton could have added a second goal soon afterwards, but Maupay’s deflected cross off Luke Ayling’s foot hit the crossbar.

ant
Antonio celebrates winner vs Burnley

Michail Antonio scored the winning goal in a 1-0 West ham victory over Burnley.

In his first start for eight Premier League games, the talismanic striker netted his ninth goal in his last 11 Premier League starts when taking advantage of some lacklustre Burnley defending

West Ham are now unbeaten in their last seven games he has started, winning five of those, including this one over a toothless Burnley, who only really started to pressure the Hammers with their direct approach late on.
