Asante Kotoko have intensified their training sessions as they gear up for a crucial clash against lower-division outfit Golden Kick in the final of the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup.

The highly anticipated encounter is scheduled to kick off at 5:00 PM on Sunday, June 15, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors are aiming to finish the season on a high by winning the prestigious domestic cup, and head coach Abdul Karim Zito is leaving no stone unturned in preparing his squad for the final match.

The build-up to the final comes on the back of a disappointing end to Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League campaign.

The Reds suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Vision Football Club last Sunday, concluding their league season on a sour note. Despite the loss, Coach Zito has chosen to view the result as a valuable lesson rather than a setback.

“I think Vision FC played well, and they deserved to win. The positive side of this game is that it’s a wake-up call to the finals we are going to play, because I saw it coming even before the Medeama game. It will help me to rearrange my boys well for the FA Cup finals. The defeat will help me positively”.

Coach Zito

Asante Kotoko’s journey to the FA Cup final has not been without challenges. Along the way, they have faced stiff competition from top-flight teams, displaying grit and tactical discipline to secure their spot in the showpiece event.

The club sees the final as an opportunity to salvage a season that fell short of expectations in the league.

Their opponents, Golden Kick, are a surprise pack in this year’s competition. The lower-division side have stunned the footballing fraternity by knocking out more fancied teams on their way to the final.

Their incredible run has drawn admiration from fans and pundits alike, but it also serves as a warning to Kotoko not to underestimate their underdog opponents.

Intensified Training Sessions

With only a few days remaining before the final, Kotoko have significantly increased the intensity of their training sessions.

Coach Karim Zito and his technical team are focusing on tactical drills, physical conditioning, and psychological preparation. Reports from the club’s training ground indicate that the players are fully aware of the stakes and are responding positively to the increased demands.

Sources within the club reveal that the focus in training has been on improving defensive solidity, quick transitions, and set-piece execution. The technical team has also been working closely with individual players to fine-tune their roles and responsibilities ahead of the final.

“Our training sessions have been very intense and detailed. The players know what is at stake. Winning the FA Cup means ending the season with a trophy, and they are determined to make it happen.” – A team official said.

Expectations From Kotoko

As one of the most successful clubs in Ghanaian football history, expectations are always high at Asante Kotoko. The club’s fan base, known for its passionate support, is eager to see the team lift silverware and restore some pride after a turbulent league campaign.

For Coach Zito, this final presents an opportunity to salvage his season. Having taken over during a difficult period, guiding the team to a major trophy would be a significant achievement and could strengthen his case for a long-term role with the club.

“The FA Cup final is not just a game. It’s a moment for us to show our character and resilience,” the coach stated. “We owe it to our fans to go all out and bring the trophy home.” -Zito stated.

The final will take place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, a venue expected to be filled with supporters from both clubs. Security arrangements have been heightened to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM, and the match will be broadcast live on various platforms to allow fans across the country to follow the action.

While Asante Kotoko will enter the match as favourites, Coach Zito and his players are aware of the unpredictable nature of knockout football.

As the clock ticks toward Sunday’s final, all eyes will be on the Porcupine Warriors to see if they can rise to the occasion and add another chapter to their story.
