The Electoral Commission says the exhibition of voters register will also comprise a list of registered voters who flouted regulations on the day of registration.
According to the EC, the “Exception list” will be on display, as well as the deployment of “the multiples List”.
“This contains names of persons who engaged in multiple registration during the Registration Exercise”.
Speaking at the “Let the Citizen Know” press briefing, the Chairperson of the Commission, Jean Mensa further intimated that, individuals who have for one reason or the other misplaced their ID can still verify their details at various exhibition centers.
“Voters can still check their Voter Registration details in the event that their ID Cards are missing. Please note however, that being in possession of an ID card makes it easier for you to check your details on the register”.
This current Exhibition Exercise “is a display of persons who were captured during just ended Registration Exercise. Therefore, there will be no Voter Registration ongoing during this period except for corrections and updates on already existing data”.
As part of the process to ensure a credible voters register, District Registration Review Officers (DRRO) who are District Court Magistrates have been appointed and assigned the responsibility of deciding on all complaints and objections that are raised during the exhibition exercise.
The DRRO’s will also authenticate the provisional voters register by endorsing it.
“The DRRO’s are required to communicate all decisions in writing to the Electoral Commission. The Commission shall, within fourteen days after parties to the case have been informed, comply with the decision of the District Registration Review Officer unless a certified notification on an appeal to the High Court is brought to its attention”.
Additionally, the Electoral Commission has also announced the recruitment of COVID-19 ambassadors to each of the 33,367 voter register exhibition centers to ensure COVID-19 protocols are adhered to throughout the eight-day exercise.
The Ambassadors will be deployed to all centers nationwide from tomorrow, September 18, 2020, to ensure strict observance to COVID-19 protocols.
The exercise will take place simultaneously across all the centers nationwide from 7 am to 6pm daily, including Saturday and Sunday.
“The Commission is desirous of ensuring the safety and security of its stakeholders. As a result, we have recruited one COVID-19 ambassador to each of the 33,367 exhibition centres. And they have been tasked to ensure adherence to the COVID-19 safety protocols in the centres.”
In light of the ongoing exercise, Jean Mensa has equally advised all and sundry to do due diligence in verifying and/or correcting their details to avert any problems.
“I take this opportunity to encourage our distinguished stakeholders particularly our Registered Voters to participate in this Voters Exhibition Exercise.
“Your participation in this process will contribute to ensuring the credibility and integrity of the Voters Register which is the foundation document for the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary election”.
