Finance Minister Must Resign Or Be Sacked With BoG Governor – Cape Coast South MP

Hon Hagan George, MP for Cape Coast South

Hon George Ricketts-Hagan, Member of Parliament for the Cape Coast South Constituency, has called for the resignition or dismissal of Dr Ernest Addison, governor of the Central Bank of Ghana.

According to him, the Bank of Ghana governor is equally guilty of contributing to the country’s current economic crisis for which the Finance Minister, Hon Ken Ofori Atta, is facing a censure motion in parliament.

Mr Hagan, who was speaking in an interview today November 18 2022, opined that Dr Addison must be removed from office, after current efforts to get the Minister for Finance to resign succeeds.

“Part of the inflation is also as a result of the Bank of Ghana printing money for the government. This is what is causing what we call hidden inflation.

“This same Bank of Ghana after printing money for the reckless spending of the government leading to high inflation has also turned around to increase interest rate because of the high inflation.”

Hon Hagan

The lawmaker further indicated that the BoG has failed in its monetary management duty just as the Finance Ministry has failed in its fiscal management policy. Hence the need for the two apppointees to be dismissed.

According to him, they have both failed, and it will be ‘a half baked cake’ if Addison does not go. ”In fact, from the Finance Minister, we should be calling for the governor to go as well” he emphasized.

I Will Be Surprised If Finance Minister Survives Censure Motion

According to the politician, it will be one of the wonders in the world if the Finance Minister, Hon Ken Ofori Atta, survives the current censure motion which was moved by the Minority caucus in parliament.

The MP noted that the cousin of the President deserves to be dismissed as he has failed the citizens and the country at large. He further indicated that Hon Ken Ofori Atta has breached the Bank of Ghana Dept Financing, as well as the country’s Financial Management Act.

Hon Hagan indicated that one of the major reasons why the Finance Minister must go is the fact that he has mismananged the economy. To him, the policy direction Ken and the government took in regards to the steering of the economic affairs of the country did not yield any results.

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has appeared before Parliament’s Ad-hoc Committee probing the Minority’s censure motion against him. The Minister will have to prove to the committee why he should not be relieved of his duty due to the allegations levelled against him.

Ken’s lawyer, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, demanded particulars and evidence of the minority’s allegations of incompetence against the minister, for which reason they are demanding his exit from office through a vote of censure.

Mr Otchere-Darko made the demand on Tuesday, 15 November 2022, at the first sitting of the eight-member bipartisan committee.

The evidence, according to Mr Otchere-Darko, will enable his client to respond fairly to the allegations.

Already, officials of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the Public Interest and Accountability Committee (PIAC) have made appearances before the committee in relation to the censure motion.
