Minister of Information , Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has restated government’s commitment to stabilise the cedi as it keeps depreciating day after day.
According to him, government is still working and the right approaches are being rolled out to make the cedi fit once more.
Speaking in a media interview on Monday October 24, Mr Oppong outlined plans by the government to respond to the poor economy of the country.
“Government is not throwing its hands in despair. We are working hard to solve the economic challenges. We have enhanced domestic programmes to arrest the economic challenges”

The Minister refuted that inflation in the country is domestically driven as stated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), stating the government will not respond to critics who think the current situation is internal.
“Current challenges are global, if someone wants to politicise it, the government won’t comment. Currently, our focus is to stabilise the cedi.”

President To Address the Nation Soon
Mr Oppong Nkrumah hinted that President Nana Akufo-Addo will soon address Ghanaians on the current economic crisis.
The address, according to the Minister, will follow series of engagements with relevant stakeholders on Ghana’s economy.
He disclosed this during the interview stating the Economic Management Team headed by Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has commenced a meeting , on how to salvage the economy.
“I know the President will certainly address the nation after the Cabinet meeting where the resolutions from all the stakeholders’ engagement will be presented. When we are clear on the specific date, my Ministry will communicate that to Ghanaians.”

On Tuesday October 25, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana will also meet managers of banks and operators of Forex Bureaux to address the depreciation of the cedi.
Dr Ernest Addison’s meeting is also supposed to fix what the banks say is the overpricing of the dollar on the market.
These consultations will end with a Cabinet retreat after which the president will address the nation with steps taken to solve the current economic hardship.
President Akufo-Addo has asked the citizenry to have faith in him to turn the country’s current economic crisis around.
