In a fiery address to Bantama delegates, Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has launched a scathing attack on the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Bantama constituency, Francis Asenso-Boakye, accusing him of corruption. and urging delegates to vote him out in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries.

The Assin Central legislator, Mr Agyapong, known for his outspoken nature, made these accusations during a meeting with Bantama delegates in Kumasi.

He boldly alleged that the Member of Parliament for Bantama, Francis Asenso-Boakye, who also serves as the Minister of Works and Housing, engaged in corrupt activities during his tenure at the Presidency and should not be re-elected.

“If you make a mistake and vote for Asenso, you will all bear witness to the revelations I will unveil. It is a condition. If you don’t want me to talk, vote against him. If you want me to talk, vote for him because we will not allow them to destroy Ghana”.

Despite the gravity of the allegations, the former flagbearer aspirant for the ruling New Patriotic Party did not provide any concrete evidence to support his claims but further intensified the political drama by hinting at potentially explosive revelations about Asenso-Boakye’s alleged corruption.

Mr Agyapong further stated that he would disclose the specific corrupt activities involving the incumbent Member of Parliament for Bantama Constituency, Francis Asenso Boakye if delegates in the constituency re-elect him.

In other event, the Assin Central Member of Parliament, Mr Kennedy Agyapong is actively campaigning for his brother, Ralph Kwame Agyapong, who is also vying for the Bantama seat in the upcoming parliamentray  primaries for the ruling New Patriotic Party.

NPP Dismisses Calls To Shield Some Sitting Members Of Parliament

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, has dismissed calls to shield experienced Members of Parliament (MPs) from competition in their parliamentary primaries.

The Director of Communications for the ruling New Patriotic Party, Mr Ahiagbah cited the core principles of democracy as the basis for the party’s stance.

Mr Ahiagbah even though acknowledged the need to consider proposals for safeguarding experienced Members of Parliament, however, stated the importance of careful evaluation.

Justifying his stance, Mr Ahigbah cautioned against measures that might compromise the democratic foundation of the New Patriotic Party ahead of it parliamentary primaries.

“The allegation that somebody is orchestrating somebody, that is just talk for people because maybe one thing is against them or the other. That should not be part of the conversation. If it is a system and arrangement that will affect a true and true practice of democracy then that will not be the system we want”

Richard Ahiagbah

In addition, the New Patriotic Party Director of Communications expressed agreement with the idea of creating a certain system to protect some experienced sitting Members of Parliament but voiced concerns about the potential impact on the basic tenets of democracy to prevail.

Mr Ahiagbah underscored the potential benefits of open competition, emphasizing that it can incentivize performance and ensure that the chosen candidate possesses the strongest public support.

This response comes in the wake of remarks by the Member of Parliament for Asante Akim Central, Lawyer Kwame Ayimadu-Antwi, and expressing frustration with the party’s perceived lack of support for seasoned lawmakers.

As the political landscape intensifies, the delegates of the New Patriotic Party are gearing up to elect parliamentary aspirants on Saturday, January 27 2024 in constituencies with sitting Members of Parliament.

The accusations and counterarguments within the party add layers of complexity to the upcoming primaries, leaving the fate of incumbent MPs in the hands of party delegates.
