In a bid to enhance the well-being of polling station executives and electoral area coordinators within the Fanteakwa North Constituency, Barbara Makara-Maccugen, popularly known as Obaatanpa Barbara, a leading New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary aspirant, has officially launched the ‘OBAATANPA FUND’.
The welfare fund, with a seed capital of One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 100,000), according to Ms Barbara Makara-Maccugen aims to uplift the living standards of delegates in the constituency.
The launch ceremony, which took place, in Begoro in the Eastern Region, attracted a large number of electoral area coordinators and delegates of the ruling New Patriotic Party.
Ms Barbara Makara-Maccugen during the event, provided insights into the objectives and operations of the fund, emphasizing its management by a seven-member trustee primarily constituted by delegates.
According to her, the fund would receive an initial seed capital of GHC 50,000 and an additional GHC 50,000 when elected into office as a Member of Parliament on December 7 2024.
Furthermore, Ms Makara-Maccugen revealed that she will top-up an annual GHC 10,000 while serving in office as the Member of Parliament (MP) in the Fanteakwa North Constituency.
“Two weeks ago when I visited you, I promised to start the welfare fund with a seed capital of 20,000ghf for you. However, I said that if God open doors to me and I happen to get more than that, I will give it to you, and by God’s grace I got more than what I promised. So, I am giving you a seed capital of 50,000gh, the money is here, I brought it to you in cash”.

Moreover, Ms Barbara Makara-Maccugen elaborated on additional policies aimed at improving the living standards of delegates, including the establishment of a constituency office to address their needs when elected into office as the Member of Parliament for Fanteakwa North Constituency.
According to her, she would also introduce a ‘Long Service Awards’ to reward and acknowledged members who have dedicated many years to serving the New Patriotic Party in the Fanteakwa North Constituency.
“For those who have served the party for many years, it is part of my plans to reward long service in the party. I will introduce long service awards scheme because whatever work you do, you must enjoy the fruits of your labour. If not for your long service and sacrifices for the party we will not be able to get where we are, so those who have service from 10 years and above will be rewarded when you give me the node to become your MP”.

In addition, Ms Barbara Makara-Maccugen outlined plans for developments in health, agriculture, education, sports, talent development, and transportation for the constituency when elected as the Member of Parliament in 2024 general elections.
Ms Makara-Maccugen also urged her supporters and members of the New Patriotic Party in the Fanteakwa North Constituency to refrain from engaging in politics of insult and encouraged them to view members of other camps as all being part of one big family which is the New Patriotic Party.
She emphasized the importance of selling her policies to other camp members and advocated for unity within the party and encouraged her supporters to promote her policies persuasively to secure their votes.
“ Let’s see ourselves as a family in the NPP party, if a delegate follows another candidate it doesn’t mean they are our enemies. Rather sell my policies to them, because some may follow other candidates but if they are convinced by my policies, they will vote for me”,

The aspirant concluded by stressing on the need for the New Patriotic Party to get a unifier who can appeal even to members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the general elections, positioning herself as that unifying figure.
