Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has defended the decision by the church to declare a three-day (all-day) fasting and prayers to intercede for the nation following the economic crisis the country is facing.
Speaking in an interview, Apostle Nyamekye noted that the church recognises that these are hard times and prayer is the only key that can help the country.
“What we have as a church is the Bible and nothing else. Our target for the three days of prayer and fasting is to seek the face of God in these critical times. We pray to God for divine wisdom for our leaders in times like this.
“We’re praying to God to come to our aid. We recognise that there are hard times and prayer can help us out. We believe there would be positive things after the fasting and prayers.”
Apostle Nyamekye
Apostle Nyamekye diclosed that the Church is not sympathetic to any government. To him, the relevance of the church is how it impacts the nation and that is what Jesus Christ has told them to do. In view of this, whichever government comes to power, they will still love Ghana as it is not about politics.
“Ours is about Ghana and so if people are saying that, they are entitled to their own opinions. Majority of the people know that we don’t even meddle ourselves in politics. That has not been our vision as a church and we shall never do that.”
Apostle Nyamekye
The church issued a circular last Friday, November 4, to announce the fasting and prayers for the nation but has since courted a lot of public reaction, especially on social media; while others are criticising the church for declaring the fasting and prayers for the nation, others have hailed the church for that move as they said situations like this needed divine intervention.
The Executive Council of the Church of Pentecost declared a three-day (all-day) fasting and prayers to intercede for the nation.
The Church Of Pentecost Is Not Serious
Meanwhile, The founder and leader of of the Ghana Union Movement(GUM) and the Life Assembly Worship Centre, Mr Christian Andrews popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom has disclosed that the churches that have called for the 3-day fasting and prayers to get the country out of the current challenges, including the Church of Pentecost are not serious.
According to him, the country does not need prayers at the moment as the leaders have failed to do what is required of them to do .
“The elders of the Church of Pentecost are not serious, are they praying the the country will go into more depts? Is it not the bible which says righteous people should not be beggers? Are they saying we are now unrighteuos and that we should be going round begging for money? They are not serious.”

Mr Andrew further disclosed that he is praying very hard Ghana will be denied bailout from the International Monetary Fund(IMF). According to him, the bail out will amount to nothing as the money the country will get will be used for the government’s extravaggant lifestyle.
According to him, he wants the IMF to tell the country that, it doesn’t not qualify for the funds.
