South Korean Officials, in a statement, has disclosed that North Korea fired a projectile, presumed to be a short-range missile into waters off the east coast of the Korean Peninsula.
This action was executed just within hours before Seoul, South Korea launched a new submarine into its waters.
The said missile, as disclosed by the statement from the South Korean Joint Chief of Staff, was lunched around 6:40 a.m. local time on Tuesday, 28th September 2021.
Also, the statement revealed that, the South Korean military is currently “maintaining a readiness posture” for any potential additional launches.
Boo Seung-Chan, South Korea’s Defence Ministry’s spokesman, in a briefing today, revealed that Pyongyang’s test was “regrettable for happening, at a time when political stability on the Korean peninsula is very critical”.
Admiral (ADM) John C. Aquilino’s led United States (US) military’s Indo-Pacific in Hawaii, disclosed it is currently consulting with partners and allies about the North Korean missile test actions around the east coast.
“While we [U.S. military] have assessed that this event does not pose an immediate threat to US personnel or territory, or to our allies, the missile launch highlights the destabilizing impact of (North Korea’s) illicit weapons program.”
United States (US) military
Under the terms and conditions of international law, Pyongyang, North Korea is barred from testing any forms of ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons, CNN disclosed.
This is not the first time Pyongyang has embarked on such an adventure, as all previous missile tests were greeted with international sanctions from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Also, the U.S. has, on several occasions, condemned the missile launch actions by Pyongyang, as the U.S State Department spokesperson, Ned Price, has called on the need to apply diplomatic actions to the issue.
North Korea allots blame to the U.S.
Kim Song, North Korea’s representative, while delivering an address at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, in New York, stated that, the presence of the U.S in the region, has a part to play in the divide between the two (2) nations (North and South Korea).
Ambassador Kim also apportioned blame to the U.S. for irritating North Korea with the United State’s military exercises in the region. He further disclosed that Pyongyang would be “prepared to respond willingly at any time” to any forms of friendly adventures to Washington.
“As the whole world knows and as the U.S. is so much concerned, powerful offensive means are, of course, included in our war deterrent.”
Kim Song
Song, in his speech, cited the close ties between Washington D.C. and Seoul, stating that “inter-Korean relations have never come out of the shadow of US interference and obstruction”.
Meanwhile, the missile test by Pyongyang, is exclusively, the third of its kind in September 2021. The first was executed on 11th September, the second on 12th September.
However, on 16th September 2021, both North Korea and South Korea were distinctly engaged in testing of ballistic missiles. This joint missile actions were met with rising tensions in one of the most volatile regions on the planet, CNN revealed.
Previously, Kim Yo Jong, one of North Korea’s top officials, and a sister to Kim Jong Un, North Korea’s Leader, disclosed that, North Korea wants to repair its inter-Korean relations.
This, she hinted, can be attained by possibly “reinstalling the joint liaison office, which North Korea destroyed last June”.
South Korea’s Unification Ministry embraced Kim’s message with regards to the probability of holding meaningful constructive discussions. However, South Korea’s Presidential ‘Blue House’ (Cheongwadae), has not officially responded, reports disclosed.
