Billionaire and latest owner of the famous and widely used Twitter app, Elon Musk has stated that, workers would no longer be working away from the office and they will be expected to be in the office for at least 40 hours a week, according to report from Bloomberg.
In an email sent to the workers, Mr. Musk stated that there was no way to “sugar coat the message” because the slow rate of the global economy was going to hit the media firm’s advertising revenues.
This implied that there was more work to be done, and working away from the office was not a good solution to this issue. Musk himself did not like the idea of working away from the office.
This is not the first time Musk was cancelling the remote working system from his business. In June 2022, he told the staff at his electric car making company, Tesla that working remotely was no longer acceptable in the company.
According to him, working remotely was not an ideal manner for working and “all the Covid stay-at-home stuff has tricked people into thinking that you don’t actually need to work hard.” A week after he became the latest owner of the social media firm, he announced that half of Twitter’s staff were going to be sent home.
After he bought the company in a 44bn dollars deal, he stated that he had “no choice” than to let these workers go because the firm was losing 4m dollars per day and he blamed this loss on activists on the app who are putting pressure on advertisers.
Twitter’s Grey Tick
Few days ago, users of the Twitter app noticed that a new feature had been introduced on the app. This feature was called the “Grey tick” and it was given to various government officials, companies and public figure accounts. However, it was taken down a few hours after it was introduced.
Meanwhile, the “Grey tick” is not the only representation for official accounts. The blue checkmark according to twitter, may currently mean two things “Either that an account was verified under the previous verification criteria (active, notable, and authentic), or that the account has an active subscription to Twitter Blue”
Twitter Blue subscription is a new initiative introduced by Elon after he bought the app a few weeks ago. This initiative allows anyone at all with a twitter account to get the blue checkmark at a cost of 8 dollars per month. This allows members who have subscribed to have verified accounts. He disregarded the old way of verification and found a new way of raising Twitter’s revenue as well.
This verification status was previously given to high profiled and notable accounts which Twitter critically analyzed and considered as authentic. The President of the United States (POTUS) stated that Musk’s relationships with other foreign countries was “worthy of being looked at”.
The POTUS made this statement after it was reported that a Prince of Saudi Arabia helped Musk to buy Twitter, and whether Elon Musk posed as a national threat and should be investigated. Prince Alwaleed bin Talal is one of Twitter’s biggest shareholders since Musk gained control over the company.
