What we know about the explosion so far

The cause of the explosion is still not clear, but many Lebanese were quick to point out what they believe to be the root causes; immense mismanagement in a broken state run by a corrupt political class who they say treat the country’s inhabitants with contempt.

.Charbel Wehbe appointed as new foreign minister after Prime Minister Hassan Diab accepts Nassif Hitti’s resignation.

“I participated in this government on the basis that I have one employer named Lebanon, and I found in my country many employers and conflicting interests,” Hitti said in his resignation letter to Prime Minister Hassan Diab, made public on Monday.

“If they don’t come together around the interests of the Lebanese people and save them, then the ship, God forbid, will sink with everyone on board.”

An investigation has now been launched, and the committee is to refer its findings to the judiciary within five days.
