NDC prepares to launch its 2020 manifesto today

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is billed to launch its 2020 manifesto today, Monday, September 7, 2020.

After an initial postponement from its September 1 scheduled date by the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee, the event which will be held at the University of Professional Studies, (UPS), is scheduled to start at 6pm.

The Campaign Spokesperson for the NDC, James Agyenim-Boateng said the manifesto will “represents the vision and programmes of the John Mahama- Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang ticket for the 2020 elections.”

He also explained that the latest document by the party will addresses all “the felt needs of the people”.

John Dramani Mahama, the presidential elect on the NDC ticket, who spoke on Sunday night ahead of today’s launch, said the NDC will transform Ghana into an advanced nation if given the nod in the 2020 general elections.

“It is our sacred mission to turn Ghana into an advanced nation as soon as possible! It is our moral obligation to be bold and to aim for greatness”.

He further reiterated his resolve to handle the current challenges in Ghana as they require the formulation of new policies and standards, a move the NDC intends undertaking if it comes to power.

“Good enough’ is no longer good enough! To prosper and thrive, we need a fundamental change! We need to set our standards and expectations far higher than “good enough”! If we settle for “good enough”, we settle for slow death of our very soul and of our pride.”

He further noted that his reason for running for a second term was to fix pervading challenges in the country.

“In all honesty, I didn’t take the decision to run for a second term as President neither easily, nor quickly. I didn’t jump into it. I did it out of a sense of urgency after I began to contemplate more and more thoroughly about our vulnerabilities as a nation.”

Quite significantly, the launch of the NDC’s manifesto has been riddled with much controversies as officials of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are already accusing the opposition of stealing ideas from their document which was launched some weeks ago.

With this, the Director of Communications of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Buaben Asamoah intimated that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) wants to plagiarize its (NPP) manifesto for the 2020 general elections.

According to the Adenta MP, the former president is still struggling to find out the needs of citizens in the country, subtly accusing him of trying to take a leaf out of the book of the NPP manifesto.

“Months before COVID-19 hit the world, John Mahama’s NDC set up a manifesto committee on a perilous journey to go and find out what Ghanaians want… on July 1st 2020, the whole world was told that candidate Mahama has received the people’s manifesto and he said he was going to launch in August but when the NPP announced August 22 to launch its manifesto, the whole world was told theirs will follow on the August 29 and then came the bomb. Our manifesto hit them so hard making them postpone to 31st August and as we speak we are not sure it will come on as announced again on the 7th September.”

Meanwhile, policies believed to be in the 2020 document have already found their way online.
