Honor The Late Former President J.J Rawlings By Helping NDC Accomplish ‘The Rescue Mission’- Aseidu Nketiah

General Secretary, National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketiah

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, has urged the general public and the members of the NDC to honor the late former President, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, by helping the NDC accomplish ‘The Rescue Mission’ come December 7as the nation goes to polls.

Mr. Aseidu Nketiah passed this message at his turn to address the gathering, at a vigil held in remembrance of the late former President who also doubled as the founder of the NDC.

“The principles are good but they remain impotent. If you are in opposition, you may have the best of ideas but you cannot implement them, you can only be reciting them. So, the best tribute we can pay to the memory of our founder, is to accomplish the rescue mission. That will position us to implement the position he lived and died for.”

He also called for the government to institute June 4th as a national holiday, which according to him, will be a perfect way to honor the memory of late Former President.

He also used the platform to intimate on the need for Ghanaians to visit the principles of positive defiance.

“What is happening today? The nepotism we are seeing, the corruption we are seeing, which in several ways can be said to be worse than what prevailed before the June 4. It is happening because we have abandoned the important principles of positive defiance. So, the best way for us to remember President Rawlings is to go back to that principle and pledge to live by them.”

Speaking also at the vigil, the former President and flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama intimated to the party members that, the death of the former president should foster togetherness.

“Let his death bring healing to our nation. He was our comrade and we worked with him, we called him boss, and he called me chief. He was not perfect, neither are we perfect. We had our disagreements and we had our joyous moments of success. He has ruled this country for 19 years longer than any leader has.

“His impact on where the country has come from and where it is headed cannot be understated. Let his death bring us together.”

In attendance of the vigil was the Flagbearer of the party, John Dramani Mahama; his Running mate; Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin; the Minority Leader of Parliament, Haruna Iddirisu; General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, the family of the late J.J Rawlings represented by Zanetor and Kimathi Rawlings among other leading members of the NDC.
