The Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Administration and Human Resource at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Yaa Pokuaa Baiden has disclosed that the Authority has been able to pay all approved outstanding monies owed providers since 2016.

She mentioned that, her outfit has been able to pay all arrears from January 2020 up to April and is working around the clock to pay all providers for May 2020.

She went on to say that, in order to make the payment of providers easy and prompt, providers should make available their claims on time to assist the Authority vet and pay accordingly.

Mrs. Baiden also hinted that her outfit has now been equipped with lots of new technological systems that are going to help improve claim processing with 30 percent E-claims, and web-based portal where credential facilities can remotely renew their credentials without having to come all the way to the Head Office.

She said through digitalization, there has been a grip on fraudulent services that had the potential of further wasting the resources of the NHIA.

The Deputy CEO stated that, the NHIA has 4,300 credential facilities throughout the country, which covers both public and private, working under the Ghana Health Service (GHS) through the CHPS Compounds, Maternity Homes, Primary, Secondary and tertiary facilities.

She encouraged members of the Scheme to always insist on their right for the needed service and attention and also indulged them to read the Subscriber Handbook, which she said is available at their offices so that they are abreast with their rights and responsibilities as well as benefit enjoyed under the Scheme.

“The Handbook also gives information on the drug lists so that when providers deny them of any drug that is covered by the Scheme, then they can insist on the right one to be given to them,”.

Mrs. Baiden added that, the subscribers of the Scheme are entitled to in-patients and out-patients service (OPD), dental services, maternal and maternity services be it antenatal, post-natal or surgical cases, through normal deliveries and cesarean services.

She further added that, the National Health Insurance Scheme is an instrument to ensuring that the nation achieves universal health coverage.

“The NHIS is a pivotal instrument in making sure that we achieve universal health coverage and as part of its week-long celebration is leaving no one behind”

“In achieving universal health coverage we need to make sure that our membership is at the highest for a generous benefit package, then we can provide the financial backing for it.”, she emphasized.

She advised all Ghanaians who are not on the Scheme to register and also implored non active members to renew their membership in order to well position them to enjoy all benefits under the Scheme.

“If your card has expired then it means you are not an active member. So, you need to renew your membership which you can do by dialing *929# for renewal without having to go to our offices.” Mrs. Baiden expressed worry about the low number of active members of the Scheme. She said the Scheme currently has nearly 23 million subscribers but only 11 million are active.
