No Body Will Move Off The Streets – Chairman Ade Coker

Joseph Ade Coker - NDC's Greater Accra Regional Chairman

The Greater Accra Reginal Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Joseph Ade Coker says the supporters of his party who have massed up at the Electoral Commission’s headquarters will not move.

He said the party and its members are fighting for the will of the Ghanaian voters; which is the election of the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

“Nobody is going to move off the street. We are going to fight for our right; we are going to fight for our motherland.”

Mr. Ade Coker further alleged that the ruling NPP has rigged the elections in some regions and again wants to rig the final results through the EC. He stated that, the party’s agents in the Eastern Region reported a situation where a different pink sheet from what they signed was faxed to the national collation center, with increased numbers for the NPP.

According to him, the NDC and for that matter John Mahama has clearly won the presidential seat but the NPP wants to overturn the results. He indicated that the party’s confidence with the win is due to its candidate’s performance at the regional levels.

“People feel that they have voted for John Mahama. With the issue of party agents being present, this is Africa. People invest in rigging and we feel that has gone on. The government has invested in rigging, don’t be blind to it. There is rigging all over the place.”

He disclosed that per their collation, the party has won 20 seats in the Greater Accra Region alone, hence indicates a clear win in the presidential race, giving the high population of the region.

“In Greater Accra Region we have won 20 seats and there is no ambiguity about that. I have got the seats that we’ve won in the Greater Accra and it’s made up of; Krowor, Ada, Sege, Ningo Prampram, Kpone Katamanso, Shai Osudoku, Tema East, Ashiaman, Ledzokuku, Odododiodio, Korley Klotey, La Dadekotopon, Ayawaso East, Ayawaso North, Okaikoi North, Madina, Adenta, Ablekuma Central, Ablekuma South and Domeabra-Obom.

“In the presidential elections per our records, we’ve had 52.4% percent and the NPP had 47.6%. So as far as the Greater Accra is concerned we’ve won the election.”

Chairman Ade Coker later alleged that the presence of the military at the Electoral Commission’s headquarters is a move by government to intimidate supporters of the NDC, but he said they will not give in.

“The military is supposed to defend our borders. The police are supposed to be handling the situation, not the military men.”

The Electoral Commission, as of now, has not made any comment on the mass up of supporters of the main opposition party outside its premise.
