The National Democratic Congress (NDC) are up in arms as they have resolved not to allow situations undermine the result of the 2020 general election.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) are up in arms as they have resolved not to allow situations undermine the result of the 2020 general election.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, the Director of Operations of the NDC’s 2020 campaign, Larry Gbevlo Lartey noted that, transparency and credibility must be the catchphrase characterizing the counting of ballots.

“At this stage, we should be talking about the transparency and credibility of elections. And anything that seeks to undermine this, we should all abhor. Our support base will not accept a situation where the results will be undermined. We have all agreed on how these elections should be conducted.

“Nowhere was it said that soldiers will be required at the collation centres and polling stations. If soldiers can shoot a man at Savelugu, then you can imagine the amount of pressure coming in. This is just an election. And the results can be tracked. Our military should be professional and stay out of the election. The law prescribes how the results should be declared.”

Commenting on the 140 parliamentary seats which the NDC purport to have won per their figures from collation centers, Mr. Lartey said, they indeed have the numbers and are well on their way to clinching the presidency as well.

“Going by our internal checks, the NDC has won 140 parliamentary seats, and we are on course to winning the presidency. There is a lot of pressure on people like me to ensure that this does not happen. There is so much tension brewing because of the illegality. Any attempt to steal this election will lead to grave consequences and nobody will like it”.

The General Secretary of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, on the other hand, accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of trying to rip the opposition party off by taking hostage of five parliamentary seats with state-sponsored gun violence.

He further revealed that the party has its own verified pink sheets and as such “will not allow the EC to change the results”.

Sammy Gyamfi also indicated the party’s resolve to remain intolerant to any attempts by the election management body to “undermine the will of the people”.

Meanwhile, Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has accused the government of using military personnel to tyrannize voters in constituencies in which the opposition National Democratic Congress won.

The legislator also maintains the incumbent government’s disposition in trying to subvert the will of Ghanaians in five out of 140 constituencies where it won the parliamentary election.

“There are attempts by the NPP government, led by Akufo-Addo, to shamefully attempt to subvert the sovereign rule of the Ghanaian people and even reduce our parliamentary numbers by five, targeting, Tarkwa, Upper Denkyira West, Sefwi Wiawso, Sene West and Techiman South.

“In Upper Denkyira West, even after collation and reconciliation, it is the NDC that won the seat there. They have threatened the Electoral Officer, saying that they will eliminate and kill him if he so declares the results in favour of the NDC.”
