Intervene In Ongoing Election Feud- NDC Youth Wing To Stakeholders

NDC National Youth Organizer George Opare Addo

The Youth Wing of the opposition, National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on stakeholders of peace in the country: the Clergy and Civil Society groups to intervene in the ongoing election feud between the two leading parties in the country, over the declaration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as President of Ghana following the general elections on December 7.

In a statement by the Wing, it disclosed that, peace is a by-product and hence the stakeholders must call on the Electoral Commission or forever hold their peace.

The Wing also stated that, it wants the EC to nullify its earlier declaration and announce NDC’s flagbearer John Mahama as president-elect, adding to the claims that, the party also won the majority in parliament.

The Youth Wing made this call, following a meeting among all regional youth organizers for the party in the country, chaired by its national youth organizer George Opare Addo.

According to the statement, the Youth Wing said per their review of the results for both parliamentary and the presidential results, they concluded that, the NDC won the presidential and the parliamentary election in the just ended polls.

They further called for the declaration of the parliamentary results by the Electoral Commission immediately.

“The NDC won Techiman South, Sefwi Wiawso, Sene West parliamentary and same should be declared in favour of the NDC by Wednesday December 16.”

The Youth Wing further threatened a protest if the issue was not addressed.

“The NDC Youth Wing calls on well meaning Ghanaians, moral society and Civil Society Organisations to speak up against the conduct of the Electoral Commission. In the event that they fail to do so, none will have the right to criticise the Youth Wing of the NDC on its next course of action; Protest and positive defiance are just tools in defence of a nations democracy.”

The Youth Wing then noted that about five lives have been taken in the Odododiodio, Techiman and Ablekuma constituencies by the military to subvert the will of the people.

The Youth wing then assured Ghanaians that their votes will count and their choice respected.

The aftermath of the election has seen a banter between the two major parties over the actual winner of the December 2020 elections.

The opposition NDC have publicly disclosed that they are not going to accept the officially declared results by the Electoral Commission, with claims that the results have been rigged.

NDC Flagbearer, John Mahama addressing the press

The Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, in a press conference after the declaration, posited that he together with the party was not going to accept fictionalized results of a flawed election after refusing to concede defeat and this has resulted in a serious election feud between both parties.

The Electoral Commission also in response to this claim asked affected parties to seek redress using the right and lawful processes.

In a recent development, the EC has disclosed that, it is putting things in place to announce the remaining results for the parliamentary contest specifically that of Sene West constituency, assuring the general public of a transparent, fair, credible and peaceful conclusion of the electoral process.
