The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has avowed the Electoral Commission (EC)will “go down in history” as the worst ever the country has had.

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has avowed the Electoral Commission (EC) will “go down in history” as the worst ever the country has had.

According to the former President, although this is not the country’s first election, the country has had to deal with the incompetence of the Electoral Commission, further indicating that, it would have led to the resignation of the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensah elsewhere.

Speaking in Techiman in the Bono East Regional Capital, Mr. Mahama noted that the violence which characterized the voting process at the place wouldn’t have occurred if the EC had done its job.

“I must say, things shouldn’t have happened this way.

“This is not our first election. But unfortunately, we find ourselves here due to the incompetence of this Electoral Commission. If this was a more advanced country, the EC Chairperson would have been forced to resign in shame.

“Ghana has been tagged as the beacon of democracy for a long time, but the EC has soiled our reputation. This EC will go down in history as the worst ever.”

The opposition leader of the NDC further iterated his party’s demand for an audit of the results of the 2020 elections.

“As a party, we are looking at auditing the pink sheets to better understand what happened in each constituency. When we are through, we will publicize our findings”

John Mahama was also unrelenting in his assertion that the incumbent party, the NPP and the Electoral Commission were in connivance to reverse “God’s winning verdict” for the NDC in the just ended-elections.

According to him, the EC’s declaration on the Presidential election fails to acknowledge the true will of the people.

“Some of our contenders resorted to the sharing of money, food items and other materials but we all reached the same destination. We know they [NPP] and the EC set out to snatch God’s winning verdict for us [NDC],” he said.

The opposition leader expressed his gratitude to the people of Techiman for the votes during the election.

“I want to thank everyone for their support especially looking at how far we have come. We thank the Lord for how far he has brought us. Let us be merry.”

Meanwhile, the Assembly Press in Accra has gazetted the 2020 presidential election results declared by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa.

This move provides legal support to the results declared by the EC Chairperson and paves way for any person or group of persons interested in contesting it to do so at the law court.

“Without that, any case from a person or a group about the election results sent to court will be thrown away.

“An instrument, which is executed under the hand of the Chairman of the Commission and under the seal of the Commission; and states that the person named in the Instrument was declared elected as the President of Ghana at the election, is prima facie evidence that the person named was elected.”

According to an Accra based news agency, it stated that, any person or group of persons interested in contesting the results had up to December 30, to do so.

“It is a public notice that states that there had been elections and of the 12 candidates that contested, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been duly elected as the President.

“The process is just like a newly wedded lady who wants to change her maiden name to her husband’s surname. You go to the Assembly press and pay a fee for it to be published”.
