President Akufo-Addo has called on the members of the Governing Council of the National African Peer Review Mechanism to ensure the country is represented on the African Peer Review Panel (APRP).

President Akufo-Addo.

President Akufo-Addo has iterated the win of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 2020 election, insisting the win of the party is proof of its validation by Ghanaians.

Speaking at a meeting with the leadership of the party in the Greater Accra Region, he disclosed the opposition party, the NDC, has lost favor with Ghanaians.

He further note their inconsistency with their purported win shows their lack of certainty, further stating that their claims of a win are untrue.

“The NDC has been making a lot of noise that they won the elections. One moment they claim they gained 139 of the parliamentary seats, another they say 145. They are not sure as to how many. All these claims turn out to be false”.

For all intents and purposes, President Akufo-Addo revealed that the NDC’s rating in the public sphere was dwindled since the reign of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.

“We should remember that ever since Jerry John Rawlings left the presidential scene of politics in our country, no NDC presidential candidate has won more than 50 percent of the votes. His successor Mills, in his first-round against Kufuor had 44%, second round, 47%. He gained the same figures in his second run. In 2008, after 3 rounds, he got 50.03%. Mahama, in 2012 got 50.7%, in 2016 he got 44%, in 2020 he got 47% of the votes”.

“What these figures tell us is that whenever the members of the NPP put our heads together, we win. The majority is with us. So let us be very clear in our minds. Our opponents with all the shouting, do not have the support of the majority of the people”.

“The future of Ghana and this country is in our [NPP] hands and is dependent on our actions”.

With constant sparring and contention over the December election, the NDC and its Presidential Candidate, John Mahama, rejected the 2020 presidential election result describing it as flawed and have refused to recognise Nana Akufo-Addo as President.

Mr. Mahama argues that neither he nor President Akufo-Addo attained a clear majority because of the omission of the Techiman South constituency from the provisional declaration of results.

With this, the NDC flagbearer sought to petition his contention of the election at the Supreme Court.

However, on January 8, 2021, the legal team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), filed a motion, with the intent to correct some errors in the appeal contesting the outcome of the 2020 general elections.

  • I won’t accept fictionalized results of a flawed election- Mahama

In the document filed on December 30, the first respondent (1st) was the Electoral Commission (EC), with the second respondent (2nd) being President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The Supreme Court on January 14, 2021, gave the green light for former President John Mahama to correct an ‘error’ in his election petition.

The motion for amendment filed by lawyers of the NDC’s flagbearer was seeking the permission of the apex court to correct a mistake in relief (f) of the election petition.

Meanwhile, the petition hearing has been adjourned to Tuesday, January 19, 2021, pending the correction of these errors.
