Canadian born rapper and singer, Aubrey Drake Graham, widely known as Drake, has become the first-ever artist to hit 50 billion streams on Spotify.

The ‘God’s Plan’ hit maker has now officially become the most-streamed artist in the history of the App.

Drake currently has 12 records on the platform after his debut Extended Playlist (EP), ‘So Far Gone’ landed on Spotify in 2019 as part of its 10th anniversary.

The achievement was announced by Chart Data, and now Drake can add this latest achievement to other achievements he has so far which includes, having the most ‘Billboard Hot 100’ entries, the artist with the most top 10 entries, and the first male artist to debut three tracks at number one on the same chart.

Some section of social media users congratulated him on his achievement whiles others opined that it was an underserving triumph since he is mostly overrated and has nothing better to offer.

It comes as no surprise that Drake, is one of the world’s most popular artists of the decade. The Canadian rapper quickly became very popular since the day he was discovered by Jay-Z back in 2006 and he is considered almost a myth than a man.

Having won three Grammys, his work is admired worldwide and his popularity is growing even more, even though it has been so many years since he’s been active. However, a close look at recent news will make you more certain that people all over the world still admire Drake’s music despite his hiatus.

Other artists that followed Drake on the most-streamed artists’ list are the late Juice ‘WRLD’ with his 5.3 billion streams, Youngboy’s ‘Never Broke Again’ with 4.7 billion streams, Lil Uzi Vert with 3.9 billion streams, and Post Malone with 3.7 billion streams.

That aside, fans are now eagerly awaiting the release of ‘Certified Lover Boy’, Drake’s sixth studio album, which is expected to drop soon. Drake was recently spotted in the Bahamas with Meek Mill which spurred rumors of them working on a music video, despite no release dates for the project having been announced.

That notwithstanding, coming down to Africa, Nigerian singer Ayodeji Balogun better known as Wizkid, continues to make waves and set new records in the music industry as he is the most streamed African artist on Spotify.

The ‘Joro’ crooner garnered more than 2 billion streams on the digital streaming platform, Spotify, and this also makes him the only African artist to amass such numbers on the music platform.

Right down in Ghana, Ghanaian superstar Sarkodie tops the Spotify chart with 113 million streams and is then followed by Shatta Wale with 104 million streams.
