Interested people in the scheme are expected to visit the Ghana Music Awards website to file their nominations.

That notwithstanding, over the years, VGMAs has become an official award scheme that rewards and celebrates Ghanaian musicians for their excellence.

This year’s awards scheme becomes the 22nd edition following the 21st one which saw Kuami Eugene winning the ultimate prize as the ‘Artiste of The Year’, beating off competition from Sarkodie, Medikal, Kofi Kinaata, and Diana Hamilton.

It can be recalled that the 21st Vodafone Music Awards, was held at the Grand Arena Dome.

Unlike the usual way the event has been organized, last year’s event took a different twist, as the awards ceremony was held virtually on 28 and 29 August due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The scheme also acknowledged the heroic efforts of health workers in the country’s fight against (COVID-19) Pandemic.

The Ghana Music Awards scheme thought it necessary to say thank you, and honor health workers for their joint effort to control the impact of the pandemic in the country.

On that night, highlife singer Kuami Eugene won the coveted ‘Artiste of the Year Award’. He also picked up his third ‘Highlife Artiste of the Year’ trophy.

Kofi Kinaata bagged home three awards, while MOG Music won the ‘Best Male Vocalist’ and ‘Producer of the Year’.

Multiple award-winning rapper Sarkodie won the ‘Best Collaboration of Year’ with his ‘Oofeetso’ hit single which featured Prince Bright of Buk Bak fame, as well as the Best International Collaboration of the Year.

Kidi’s ‘Sugar’ was adjudged ‘Album of the Year’ whiles Kwesi Arthur won the ‘Best Rapper of the Year’.
