GHANAIANS MARK INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH #THE FLAG THE FACE CHALLENGE

Some Ghanaians and celebrities have taken to Twitter to show their true beauty as they mark the 64th celebration of the country’s independence.

The challenge is currently ranking at number one on Ghanaian Twitter trends. Using the hashtag #The Flag The Face, some netizens, especially women, are posting beautiful photos of themselves on the picture-sharing app alongside the national flag of Ghana. This is being done to convey the message that Ghana is indeed blessed with beauty.

 It is worth mentioning that, not only are the tweeps in this challenge residents of Ghana. However, some Ghanaians living aboard are also taking part in this challenge. That notwithstanding, some Ghanaian celebrities and media personalities such as Stephanie Benson, Berla Mundi, Anita Akuffo, and many more are also included in this social media challenge. WEAR GHANA FESTIVAL 2021

Speaking of showcasing the beauties of Ghana, there was a fashion virtual show, dubbed ‘Wear Ghana Festival 2021’ that was put together by ‘Mimmy Yeboah womenswear brand’ and GTP. The show took place at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, where there was a presentation and display of some beautifully crafted authentic Ghanaian fabrics in fashion. This was done to showcase the creativity of 12 of Ghana’s top designers. They all used fabrics from GTP to make their beautiful creations. ‘Mimmy is a womenswear brand’ seeks to transform Ghana’s current understanding of the fashion needs of a modern Ghanaian woman. The brand apart from using clothing as a vehicle to challenge negative perceptions of African brands and products is also poised towards achieving world-class standards.

COVID-19 AFFECTS INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Meanwhile, due to the existence of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s anniversary only witnessed a brief ceremony at the Jubilee House. The celebration was done virtually so as to avoid further spread of the virus. More so, this is the first time in decades that  Ghana marked its Independence Day anniversary without the traditional march past of the security services and selected schools at the national, regional, and district levels.
