In another post, she sent a three minute voice recorded message lamenting on how the issue of domestic violence is badly treated in the country. According to her, several people backlash single women for being single. It’s due to this fear that some women decide to stay in an abusive relationship. Listing some other forms of abuse, Lydia emphasized that it’s not every lady that will have a physical scar to prove that they are being domestically abused. Nonetheless, she advised citizens to do better in accepting victims of domestic violence with an empathic heart.

LYDIA’S CAMPAIGN

“Another day another sad story of a woman who has died as a result of alleged domestic violence. Like always we are going to be outrage. We are going to write long post and debate among ourselves as to why this happen. We are going to probably move on with our lives until the next victim becomes a harsh tag. Sadly we are all a part of this problem. It is in how we react when victims have the courage to speak out. It is through our subtle jabs on and offline that we place marriage above life… You question women for being single, yet when women choose to stay in abusive relationship you come and ask why?

“Everyone is guilty. From us on the internet to the media. So many women are afraid with the shame associated with failed marriage because you will not receive them with empathy. You question what they didn’t do to sustain their marriage. For many of you, you only believe a victim when they die. But there are so many other forms of abuse; mental, psychological, emotional and even financial. All these don’t leave a physical scar but they leave a scar nonetheless. This is sad and heartbreaking. All these will not stop until we start doing better”.

STORY BEHIND LYDIA’S CAMPAIGN

This follows a recent report which states that a businessman, Prince Charles Dedjoe has been charged with murder by police prosecutors for allegedly killing his wife. Per the reports, an argument ensued between the couple, and the accused assaulted the deceased who sustained injuries. After seeking treatment at the Madina polyclinic and returning home, her condition deteriorated. She was later rushed to the Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

This led to the arrest of the accused who subsequently asked for bail but was however rejected by the court. Dedjoe has been remanded in police custody and the case has been adjourned to March 22, 2021.

Meanwhile, Security Expert, Paul Boateng, has charged the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) to sensitize the populace on domestic violence. This he said will help the development of the country.
