Kofi Jamar has disclosed that he is going to compete head-on with dancehall artist, Larruso, in the 'Best reggae/dancehall artist'

Ghanaian musical artist, Kofi Jamar.

Ghanaian rising star, Kofi Jamar has disclosed that he is going to compete head-on with dancehall artist, Larruso, in the ‘Best reggae/dancehall artist’ category at the upcoming Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

The ‘Ekorso’ hitmaker made this disclosure during an interview where he posited that Larruso is his competition in that particular category. However, he is hopeful of winning that award.

“In that category [Best reggae/dancehall artist] I am going to go head-on with Larruso. That’s who I feel is my competition… in that category [Best hiplife/hip-pop artist], it’s going to be tough but I have my fingers crossed. I am just hopeful and ask my people to vote for me”.

Kofi Jamar who earned a total of seven nominations for the upcoming VGMA mentioned that he is extremely excited about it. He also intimated that he will keep working hard to make sure he keeps getting recognized not only on the local market but internationally as well.

“I got seven nominations and It’s a wonderful feeling. It actually validates where I am in my music career right now. It makes me feel like I am beginning to be accepted by Ghana and the Ghanaian music industry. It’s been a long time we’ve prayed for this and had sleepless nights to come this far. I’m just grateful and feeling excited about it”.

When asked if he ever thought of coming this far, he said “That was the faith that I had. But I didn’t think it will be anytime soon. It just happened and I am glad about it”.

Kofi Jamar will still be happy if he doesn’t win any award

When quizzed as to what he will do and how he will feel if he doesn’t win any award for all the seven categories he has been nominated for, he disclosed that he will still be happy. According to him, being nominated was enough for him. Therefore, he entreated his fans to support him come what may.

“Well, the nominations itself are huge for me. Just like 3music awards I got 3 nominations, I won none. But I was still happy and proud that the board even got to; know me and included me in the award scheme. This time is seven, So I am really happy and grateful”.

Speaking about his performance at the 3Music awards, where he gave a rap verse for the ‘Osibisa tribute performance’, he said it was an honor to be entrusted such a huge task as it was also an opportunity to show how versatile he is.

“Well, I think it was we holding our end of the bargain making the show worth watching. As I got hit up by Sadiq to join that performance I was really overwhelmed. Osibisa is a legendary band and I felt it was a chance to prove myself; to do something worth standing as a historic thing. it was a huge opportunity for me and now people see me in a different positive light”.
