EPL Review: Comeback Kings, Manchester United beat Tottenham 2-1

Fred celebrates Manchester United Equalizer

Manchester United came from behind once again to win 3-1 at Tottenham, denting the hosts’ top-four hopes.

The game sparked into life after Edinson Cavani had a goal controversially disallowed on 33 minutes. Heung-Min Son then put Spurs ahead before halftime with a far-post finish from Lucas Moura’s centre.

United equalized early in the second half as Fred converted a few yards out after Cavani’s shot had been parried by Hugo Lloris into his path.

The visitors went ahead as substitute Mason Greenwood’s brilliant ball was converted by the diving header of Cavani. Greenwood finally rounded off a brilliant second-half performance for the visitors, smashing home after a fantastic Paul Pogba assist.

The result leaves Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham six points behind fourth-place West Ham United in the battle for top four places.

Liverpool 2-1 Aston Villa

Liverpool’s run of six successive Premier League defeats at Anfield came to an end, with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa.

Villa striker, Ollie Watkins gave the visitors the lead against the run of play two minutes before halftime.

However, Mohamed Salah’s tap-in early in the second half finally hauled Liverpool level, as the hosts dominated the half.

Alexander-Arnold then curled home a sensational strike in injury time to give Jurgen Klopp’s men all three points.

Manchester City 1-2 Leeds

Leeds United pulled off a remarkable 2-1 win away against Manchester City, despite playing with 10 men for 45 minutes.

Pep Guardiola’s men needed just 11 more points to secure the Premier League title but were met by a resilient Leeds side, who took the lead at the Etihad Stadium through Dallas.

The game, however, swung in City’s favour just before halftime when Liam Cooper was dismissed for an ugly lunge on Gabriel Jesus.

City pressurized Leeds in the second half and got an equalizer through Ferran Torres. City went on to press for a winner but Leeds continued to dig in and sensationally staged a devastating counter-attack which was finished off by the tireless Dallas to hand them the victory.

Crystal Palace 1-4 Chelsea

Chelsea returned to winning ways with an impressive 4-1 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Kai Havertz gave Chelsea the lead within eight minutes with a well-taken goal, his second Premier League goal of the season.

Chelsea doubled their lead just two minutes later when Havertz turned provider for Pulisic to finish a brilliant team move.

Kurt Zouma extended the visitors’ lead when he headed in his fifth goal of the season from a Mason mount cross.

Palace reduced the deficit after halftime whenn Christian Benteke headed in at the far post against the run of play. However, Pulisic capped a routine win for Chelsea from close range to secure all three points for the blues.

West Ham 3-2 Leicester City

Jesse Lingard continued his fine scoring form with two more goals as West Ham beat Leicester City 3-2.

West Ham raced into a two-goal lead as the on-loan Lingard struck twice before half-time with a brilliant cushioned volley followed by a tap-in.

The Hammers added a third soon after halftime as Jarrod Bowen swept home three minutes into the second half.

However, the in-form Kelechi Iheanacho gave Leicester hope of a recovery by smashing home an unstoppable drive with 20 minutes to go, before adding a second in injury time with his ninth goal in his last six matches.

West Ham, though, held on for the win that moved them a point above Chelsea and back into the fourth. 

Sheff Utd 0-3 Arsenal

Arsenal ended a four-game winless streak as Alexandre Lacazette scored twice in a routine 3-0 win over relegation-bound Sheffield United.

With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missing through illness, Lacazette clinically fired the Gunners in front to complete a brilliant team move.

Martinelli doubled Arsenal’s lead in the second half with his first goal in an Arsenal shirt for 15 months following a serious knee injury.

Lacazette then slotted home his 50th Premier League goal as Arsenal moved to ninth place with the 3-0 win.

Burnley 1-2 Newcastle

Allan Saint-Maximin’s brilliant performance from the bench eased Newcastle’s relegation fears as he set up one and scored one in a crucial 2-1 win at Burnley.

Burnley took the lead in the first half through Matej Vydra’s third goal in five matches.

The hosts controlled proceedings until the introduction of Saint-Maximin on 57 minutes turned the game on its head.

The Frenchman providing the assist for a wonderful Jacob Murphy goal two minutes after coming on before scoring the winner from a sensational solo effort.

The victory takes them six points clear of Fulham, who have also played a game more than Bruce’s side.

Fulham 0-1 Wolves

Adama Traore’s 92nd-minute stunner gave Wolves a 1-0 victory over Fulham to sink the Cottagers deeper into the relegation mire.

In a rather cagey first half, Ruben Loftus-Cheek glanced a fine chance wide for Fulham, before Wolves’ Willian Jose had a header ruled out in stoppage time.

 The game appeared to be headed for a goalless draw after 90 minutes. However, Traore broke in the closing stages of stoppage time to score his first goal of the season, lashing home from an acute angle on the break past Alphonse Areola to hand his team the victory.
