M.Cby M.C

Reading Time: 4 mins read
Yvonne Nelson has registered her displeasure in the current state of Ghana's health sector and she is calling on President Akufo-Addo to see it as a clarion call.

Ghanaian Actress and producer, Yvonne Nelson.

Ghanaian award-winning actress, Yvonne Nelson might soon be organizing a vigil as she is in a fury against the current power outages and demands it must stop.

In a Twitter post, the actress emphasized that Ghanaians didn’t think;President Akuffo Addo’s government will let them experience ‘dumsor’ power outages. However, the narrative hasn’t changed. She also lamented that the leaders of the country are not doing their work diligently, therefore they keep failing Ghanaians.

“Seriously!!! This has to stop MR PRESIDENT. #DUMSORMUSTSTOP @NAkufoAddo NEVER did Ghanaians think you’d let us EXPERIENCE #dumsor but here we are … the same leader who bashed ex-president years back! Our leaders keep FAILING us!”

Yet, in another tweet, she wrote: “Continue fighting for them… you’ll sleep in the heat, they’ll sleep in their a/cs regardless”.

Reactions to her posts

Her tweets have been received with several mixed feelings. Some were of the view that her rants will not solve the problem and that whether she demonstrates or not ‘dumsor’ will continue to prevail. According to them, power outages didn’t even start during Mahama’s government. Therefore, it’s going to continue from one government to the other.

Meanwhile, others were of the view that she should hit the streets like she did in Mahama’s time and demonstrate. Because lamenting on social media isn’t loud enough. However, some who are probably pro-NPP defended the President. They mentioned that there is nothing that the President can do about the power outages as the situation is out of his hands. According to them, it is now a “national problem” therefore Yvonne Nelson should “chill”.

Some also mentioned that they are surprised that Yvonne has now realized that the leaders have failed and keep failing the citizens. But then, some who sided with her said they are ready to hit the streets with her if she is ready to organize a vigil.  Some reactions to her posts read:

If u ask me to choose between "the bad" and "the worse" I will surely choose the bad, so madam Yvonne pls let us be wai
U can go to de Flagstaff house and tell him in person

There is nothing he can do about it now,its a situation out of their hands now its a national problem not a party problem they were backlashing for propaganda to get votes. So Chill!!

Don't mind this ranting lady. Her comparison of Mahama's Dumsor n the current situation doesn't hold. Before the emergence of Mahama's Dumsor we used to have power outages (Light offs) so what's she talking about or just wanna be heard I guess.

Madam I think your agenda is not loud 🎷🎺 just hit the street okay. Because some of us we don’t experience what you are talking about 🥳🥳🥳

— dhope gee spark (@MR_PRYNz) April 13, 2021

My shirt is ready…just set de date for the vigil 🖤🖤

Yvonne Nelson organizes vigil against ‘dumsor’

That notwithstanding, this will not be the first time the actress has taken to social media to fume over the actions of the Nana Akufo-Addo led government. The actress who doubles as a movie producer, in the latter parts of 2020 said she had so much faith in the leaders of this country but it turned out that they are all the same after all.

Before the 2016 elections, it can be recalled that Yvonne Nelson during the tenure of John Dramani Mahama led a much-attended vigil to register the displeasure of Ghanaians at the unstable supply of power to the country, which was affecting the growth of various sectors of the economy. The vigil according to several people was one of the things that shaped Ghanaian’s mentality towards changing the Mahama-led administration.
